When the tooth system has been roughed out by tools having a reference profile III or IV, the tool with refer

9、ence profile I does not contact the base of the gear teeth during the finishing operation. It can also be used for tools required to leave a very mall machining allowance, e.g. for shaving. Reference Erofile II is likewise intended for tools with which a tooth systeo is finish-cut, e.g. pinion type

10、cutters. It can also be used for hobs when a fairly large radius is required at the base of the teeth. Furthermore, it may be used for tools required to leave I very soall machining allowance, e.g. for aharing. Reference profile III IiifEIChgl.-cutting nachine is set to the whole depth of tooth requ

11、ired to be left smaller than that yielded by reference profile III, this can be done by increasing the depth setting of the gear-cutting MaChiIIa.
