Abstract. This docu

2、ment covers low unsupported molded overshoes of one type and in the designs specified herein. The overshoes are intended for protection of personnel in the presence of low level radioactive contaminants. 0 Salient Characteristics. The overshoes shall be constructed as an unlined unit on the contract

3、ors mold to provide proper fit for the related sizes and shapes of mens work shoes. The overshoes may be of a “storm“ or “sandal“ design as shown in Figure 1. They shall consist of an upper, sole, and heel. The tread pattern shall be a continuous grid type and shall not be subject to loss of pieces

4、in wear. The tread shall provide good traction. Figure 1 is furnished for information purposes only. To the extent of any inconsistencies between the written description and the figure, the description shall control. 7、all be cured and treated to eliminate tackiness and have a smooth finish. All mold flashings shall be trimmed and all inside corners rounded and made smooth. The yellow rubber compound for the patched area shall be molded simultaneously with the overshoe. Materials. 4 1 Rubber compound. The compound

8、 shall be made from virgin natural rubber, synthetic rubber or a combination of both. The compound shall meet the physical properties when tested as specified in Testinq of rubber compound, Table II-Tests. i Color. The color of the rubber compound forming the vamp, sole, instep, and heel shall be bl

9、ack. There shall be two yellow identification patch areas on each overshoe, one in the toe area covering 2 to 5 square inches and the other on rear quarter covering 15 to 20 square inches (see Figure 1). The yellow shall approximate Shade 13655 of FED-STD-595. Thickness. The thickness of the sole an

10、d heel excluding tread shall be a minimum of 0.100 inch. The thickness of the sole and heel including tread shall be a minimum of 0.135 inch. The minimum thickness of the upper shall be 0.030 inch except the reinforced portions shall be a minimum of 0.0375 inch. Sizes. The overshoes shall be in the

11、following sizes to accommodate the related size of shoe. Size Related shoe size Small 6 to 7-1/2 Medium 8 to 9 Large 9-1/2 to 11 Extra Large 11-1/2 to 13 NOTE: Sizes. Small, Medium, Large, Extra-Large may be abbreviated as SM, MED, LG, XLG. Markinq. The size and contractors name shall be molded on t

After completio

13、n, the finished overshoes shall conform to the quality established by this description. Occurrence of defects shall not exceed the applicable acceptable quality levels. Product Demonstration Model. When required, offerers shall submit samples of their intended production. The Product Demonstration M

14、odel will consist of units independently developed. Product Demonstration Models will be analyzed and evaluated by the government. Evaluation criteria and basis for award are contained in the solicitation. Product Demonstration Models will be retained by the government. One (i) Product Demonstration

15、 Model approved by DPSC under the resultant contract . will serve as a manufacturing standard for the corresponding production items delivered under this contract. Offerers are advised that the Product Demonstration Model does not relieve the successful offerer of his responsibility to perform in ac

16、cordance with the Commercial Item Description specified above. Quality Assurance Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics and all other requirements listed in this document and that the product conforms to the producers own drawings, spec

17、ifications, standards and quality assurance practices. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to the first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for, under the provisions of the contract. Reliance on contractor QA systems shall not relieve the con

18、tractor of the responsibility of ensuring that all products or supplies submitted to the government for acceptance comply with all requirements of the contract. Testinq of rubber compounds. Unless otherwise specified, the tests shown in Table II shall be conducted in accordance with FED-STD-601. The

19、 physical values specified in Section 3 shall be applicable to the lot average. A lot shall consist of the amount of rubber compounded in a day. The sample unit for testing shall be a representative composite taken from a lot. Two specimens 6 by 6 inches shall be prepared from the composite for each

20、 of the prescribed tests. The specimens for the abrasion index and hardness tests shall be 0.250 inch thick and 0.075 inch thick for the other tests. Overshoe lots shall be inspected in accordance with “Sampling Procedures and Tables for Inspection by Attributes“, ANSI/ASQC 21.4, published by the American Society for Quality Control. Visual Examination. The inspection level for visual examination shall be II

24、 and the AQL shall be 2.5 for major and total of 6.5 major and minor combined expressed in terms of defects per hundred units. The sample unit shall be one overshoe and the selection shall be by pairs. For pairing examination, the pair shall be examined together. Defects The overshoes shall be exami

25、ned for the following defects: Not mated; not a right and left of an identical size; design and construction not asspecified; identification color patch missing; finish not smooth or poor or uneven molding; not of uniform color; tread pattern not continuous grid type; incomplete trimming of flashing

The finished overshoes sha

27、ll conform to the measurements specified herein. The sample unit shall be S-3 and the AQL shall be 1.5 expressed in terms of defects per hundred units. Packaqinq Examination. The fully packaged shipping containers shall be examined in accordance with defects listed below. The lot size shall be the n

28、umber of shipping containers in the inspection lot. The inspection level shall be S-2 and AQL shall be 1.5 expressed in terms of defects per hundred units.
