13、-03-01. This European Standard supersedes HD 214 S2:1980. 27、VETRACKINGINDICES OFSOLIDINSULATINGMATERIALS 1 Scope ThisInternationalstandardspecifiesthemethodoftestforthedeterminationoftheproofand comparative tracking indices of solid insulating materials on pieces taken from parts of equipmentandonplaquesofmaterialusingalternatingvoltages. Thestandardprovides

28、forthedeterminationoferosionwhenrequired. NOTE1 Theprooftrackingindexisusedasanacceptancecriterionaswellasameansforthequalitycontrolof materialsandfabricatedparts.Thecomparativetrackingindexismainlyusedforthebasiccharacterizationand comparisonofthepropertiesofmaterials. Testresultscannotbeuseddirect

29、lyfortheevaluationofsafecreepagedistanceswhen designingelectricalapparatus. NOTE2 Thistestdiscriminatesbetweenmaterialswithrelativelypoorresistancetotracking,andthosewith moderateorgoodresistance,foruseinequipmentwhichcanbeusedundermoistconditions.Moreseveretests, oflongerdurationarerequiredfortheas

40、dtoasuccessionofdropsofelectrolyteeitheruntiltheovercurrentdeviceoperates, oruntilapersistentflameoccurs,oruntilthetestperiodhaselapsed. Theindividualtestsareofshortduration(lessthan1h)withupto50or100dropsofabout 20mgofelectrolytefallingat30sintervalsbetweenplatinumelectrodes,4mmapartonthe testspeci

41、mensurface. Ana.c.voltagebetween100Vand600Visappliedtotheelectrodesduringthetest. Duringthetest,specimensmayalsoerodeorsoften,therebyallowingtheelectrodesto penetratethem.Theformationofaholethroughthetestspecimenduringatestistobe reportedtogetherwiththeholedepth(testspecimenthickness).Retestsmaybema

42、deusing thickertestspecimens,uptoamaximumof10mm. NOTE Thenumberofdropsneededtocausefailurebytrackingusuallyincreaseswithdecreasingappliedvoltage and,belowacriticalvalue,trackingceasestooccur. 5 Testspecimen Anyapproximatelyflatsurfacemaybeused,providedthattheareaissufficienttoensurethat duringthetes

43、tnoliquidflowsovertheedgesofthetestspecimen. NOTE1 Flatsurfacesofnotlessthan20mm 20mmarerecommendedtoreducetheprobabilityofelectrolyte lossoverthespecimenedgealthoughsmallersizesmaybeused,subjecttonoelectrolyteloss,e.g.ISO3167, 15mm15mmmultipurposetestspecimens. NOTE2 Itispreferabletouseseparatetest

44、specimensforeachtest.Ifseveraltestsaretobemadeonthesame testpiece,careshouldbetakentoensurethatthetestingpointsaresufficientlyfarfromeachothersothat splashesorfumesfromthetestingpointwillnotcontaminatetheotherareastobetested. Thethicknessofthetestspecimenshallbe3mmormore.Individualpiecesofmaterialma
