SCOPEThe material defined by this specification is a

2、water-borne, metallicbasecoat, to be used after pre- drying with colourless clearcoat (e.g. SKM-32J9553-A).2. APPLICATIONThis specification was released originally for material with low solventemission used as topcoat colour for primed bodies and other exteriorcomponents.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 STATISTIC

3、AL PROCESSSupplie rs must conform to the requirements of Ford Quality SystemStand ard Q-101. A mutually acceptable Control Plan as describedtherein is required for material/source approval. Appropriatestatist ical tools must be used to analyze process/product data sothat variation in the final produ

4、ct is continuously reduced.3.2 COMPOSITION3.2.1 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY AND/OR THERMAL ANALYSISFord Motor Company, at its option, may conduct infraredand/o r thermal analysis of material/parts supplied to thisspeci fication. The IR spectra and thermograms establishedfor initial approval sh all co

5、nstitute the reference standardand s hall be kept on file at the designated materiallaborat ory. All samples shall produce IR spectra andtherm ograms that correspond to the reference standard whentested under the same conditions.3.2.2 UV Spectroscopic AnalysisA UV spectroscopic anal ysis is to be ca

6、rried out on approvedinitial samples from th e FoMoCo Quality Control or Ford TestLaboratories. The resu lts are to be retained. Results fromUV sp ectroscopic analyses carried out for control purposesmus t correspond with the values obtained from the initialsample.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONE

8、batch submissions the density(FLTM EU-BI 2-2), the non-volatile content (FLTM EU-BI 2-1)and the volume solids (FLTM EU-BI 154-2) of the material assupplied must be quoted on the D520 report form.3.3 PHYSICAL PROPERTIES3.3.1 Non-volatile residue(FLTM EU-BI 2-1)In accordance with initial sample report

9、 +/- 1.5 %, min 17 %.3.3.2 Volume of non-volatile solids(FLTM BI 154-2)In accordance with initial sample report +/- 0.05 %.The percentage of organic solvent content has to be quoted inthe initial sample report.3.3.3 Supply ViscosityMaterial must be supplied at spray viscosity in production.Prior to

10、initial approv al a flow curve has to be establishedon Haake Roto-Viskosimeter RV 20/M5 under conditions asfollow:25 +/- 0.3 C,shear 4 minutes from 1/s to 500/sshear 2 minutes at 500/sshear 4 minutes from 500/s to 1/sThis diagram has to correspond to the reference standardestablished by Engineering

19、r medium pressure using cottonwadding. The test panels are finally wiped usinga clean cloth.3.4.5 AgeingPanels are aged prior to testing for 72 hours at 23 +/- 2 Cor 16 hours at 45 +/- 2 C.In the case of differing test results, the results for 72hours at 23 +/- 2 C take precedence.ENGINEERING MATERI

21、ke panels (#3.4.4.1).3.5.3 Heat ResistanceA decrease in gloss of maximum 4 units is permitted when thepaint film is stoved additionally according to # 3.4.4.2.3.5.4 General AppearanceThe paint coating must be capable to give after stoving asmoo th film with good flow and no cratering, no abnormalrou

22、ghness or excessive metallic mottling.It must be capable of b eing cleaned by normal procedures andhave excellent polishing properties.3.6 FILM PROPERTIESAll test values indicated herein are based on ma terial conditioned ina control led atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relativehumidity for n

23、ot less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under thesame conditions unless otherwise specified.3.6.1 Dry Film Thickness(FLTM EU-BI 17-1)Metallic basecoat + clearcoat minimum 50 microns (see 3.4.2).3.6.2 Hardness(FLTM EU-BI 12-1)Tukon 7.5 KHN minimumPanel stoving according to # 3.4.4.13.6.3 Polish

26、 from the sprayed un dercoat is tobe rated.Report on chipping from the metal.3.7.3 Water resistance(FLTM EU-BI 4-1)The pain t film must withstand the 240 hour water-soak testwithout discolouration, blistering, peeling, dulling orserious roughening.3.7.4 Weathering resistanceExterior weathering(FLTM

27、EU-BI 60-1)Panels prepared according to # 3.4 are exposed at 5 degfacing south for 12 months in the Miami/Florida area.Only slight dulling colour change or fading must occur.After 12 months exposure no cracking, checking, rust-blistersor peel ing shall be visible. The panels must then show agloss of

28、 minimum 70 uni ts using a 20 deg glossmeter (FLTM BI110-1) and must be free from dirt and mildew. The paintsys tem on the weathered panel must withstand the adhesiontest FLTM BI 106-1 method C.Loss of adhesion of the clearcoat or of the total system isnot permitted.Until finally establish ed, the p

29、eriod of weathering exposureshoul d be carried out for information up to 5 years.Intermediate evaluations should be made every 12 months.3.7.5 Resistance to water-spotting and soap spotting(FLTM BI 113-1)3.7.5.1 Maximum water spotdiscolouration: 0.3 NBS units3.7.5.2 Maximum soap spotdiscolouration:

31、10 cold test cycles withoutcracking or noticeable dulling.3.8 REPAIR PAINTING3.8.1 Repair Colour Match(FLTM EU-BI 15-1)The paint film shall show satisfactorily colour match afterrecoating and rebaking at standard bake accordin g to FLTM EU-BI 15-1.3.8.2 Intercoat Adhesion No loss of adhesion(EU BI 6

32、-2, after standard bake (3.4.4.1) and rebake(3.4.4.2)3.8.3 Repair Painting (Low bake)3.8.3.1 Panel preparationPanels prepared acc. 3.4.1.1 and 3.4.2.2 are drysanded with 400 grit paper. Spray solvent bas ecoatSM-32J110-B and catalyzed clearcoat SKM-32J9553-Aplus acid catalyst SM-99J9565-B. Bake for

33、10minutes at 100 C.The paint system with clearcoat shall showsatisfactory colour match and adhesion to the bakedfinish.The hardness of the clearcoat shall be minimum 6KHN (Tukon). Measurement after 168 hours storageat 23 +/- 2 C.3.8.3.2 Weathering ResistanceSimilar to # 3.7.43.8.3.3 Intercoat Adhesi

36、proval wasoriginally granted.Pr ior to making any changes in the properties, composition,co nstruction, color, processing or labelling of the materialorig inally approved under this specification, whether or not suchchange s affect the materials ability to meet the specificationrequir ements, the Su

37、pplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changesand obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineeringactivity. Test data, t est samples and a new code identification areto be submitted with the request.Substance restrictions imp

38、osed by law, regulations or Ford apply tothe materials addressed by this document. The restrictions aredefined in Engineering Material Specification WS S-M99P9999-A1, unlessa different suffix (e.g., A2 or A3) is specified on the engineeringdocument for the application.3.10 APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMater

39、ials defined by this specification must have prior approval bythe responsible Materials Engineering activity. Suppliers desiringapp roval of their materials shall first obtain an expression ofintere st from the affected Purchasing, Design and MaterialsEngineering activity. Upon request, the supplie

40、r shall submit to theaffected Materials Engi neering activity its own laboratory report tothe specification (test results, not nominal values), the materialdesignation and code nu mber, and test specimens for Ford evaluation.Upon approval, the material will be added to the Engineering MaterialApproved Source List.
