2、cedure is used to test adhesives and pressure sensitive tapes for staining development when used in trim assemblies. Assemblies of the materials are exposed to heat and artifi cial sunlight to simulate conditions under which staining may occur. Apparatus Requires Fluorescent Sunlamp Cabinet - or equ
3、ivalent A modified oven equipped with four Westinghouse FS 20 T - 12 fluorescent sunlamps is required. The oven shall be maintaine d at 63 +/ - 2 C for this test. Oven Grieves Hendry, Model PL - 1, 1000 watts O.D. - 750 mm wide, 625 mm deep, 600 mm high I.D. - 712 mm wide, 600 mm deep, 512 mm high 1
4、10 V, AC, 50 - 60 cycle, single phase motor The oven is to be equipped with thermostat control and red pilot light. An oven stand is optional. Sunlamp Fixture 20 gage steel box with screw cover Two two - lamp, 20 watt high power factor ballasts Four fluorescent starter assemblies Cover - 20 gage ste

Adhesive Film Applicator A scraper similar to the one shown below is used to spread the adhesive in a film 25 mm wide and 0.25 mm thick. Material - Low Carbon Steel Roller A steel roller 82.5 +/ - 2.5 mm diameter and 45 +/ - 1.
7、0 mm in width, covered with rubber approximate ly 6 mm thick and having a durometer hardness of 80 +/ - 5. The weight of the roller proper which applies pressure to the specimen shall be so constructed that the weight of the handle is not added to the weight of the roller during use. (ASTM D 1000).
8、Steel Panels Phosphate coated only - 75 x 200 mm Phosphate coated, primed and enameled - 75 x 200 mm Prepare panels as described in Ford Laboratory Test Method BI 109 - 01. Use method “C“ for painted panels. Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material cond
9、itioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/ - 2 C and 50 +/ - 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure Tapes 1. P repare freshly enameled steel panels with White, or Light Blue, or their replacement color
10、s. Prime and enamel panels as described in Ford Laboratory Test Method BI 103 - 02, Method “C“. 2. Place a tape specimen 25 x 175 mm on the center portion of each of the painted panels. Use light finger pressure to give intimate contact and then roll once forward and back with the 2 kg roller. 3. Ma
11、sk off 50 mm of the tape and panel with aluminum foil and expose the assemblies in the sunlight cabinet at a distance of 300 mm from the lamps for the time required by the material standard. 12、hours exposure, strip and cut off a 50 mm portion of the exposed tape specimens and again place the assemblies in the sunlamp cabinet for 24 hours. 5. Remove the aluminum foil, compare with the exposed areas and examine for any migration staining of the adhesive mass through the cloth tapes or onto
13、the areas of the panel immediately adjacent to the contact areas of the tape. Examine the 50 mm areas where the tapes were re moved after the first 24 hours exposure and note any contact stain which appeared after the second 24 hours exposure. Adhesives Single Coat Application 1. Prepare enameled pa
14、nels of both colors as described under Tapes Step No. 1. 2. Apply a 25 mm wid e and 0.25 mm thick wet film of the adhesive over the length of the left half of each panel. Brush a similar film of adhesive on the right side of each panel to simulate production application. 3. Allow a 1 minute open tim
15、e, then place a 25 mm by 150 mm section of M2F37 FDA, Vinyl Coated Headlining, over each of the adhesive films, spreading lightly with the flat portion of the finger to obtain intimate contact. (See note.) 4. Condition the assembly for 16 hours at 23 +/ - 2 C, then mask off one half of each assembly
16、 with aluminum foil. 5. Expose in the sunlight cabinet 300 mm from the lamps for the time required by the material standard. 6. Remove the aluminum foil and compare with the exposed area. Report any adhesive staining or discoloration of th e headlining. Double Coat Application 1. Apply a 25 mm wide
17、and 0.25 mm thick wet film of adhesive over the length of the left half of a phosphate coated panel. Brush a similar film of adhesive over the other half of the panel to simulate production app lication. 2. Brush adhesive over the Naugahyde backing surface. 3. Allow a 1 minute open time, then place
18、25 mm by 150 mm sections of M2F9, Naugahyde, over each of the adhesive films, spreading lightly with the flat portion of the finger to obtain intima te contact. (See note.) 4. Follow Steps No. 4 and 5 under Single Coat Application. 5. Remove the aluminum foil and compare with the exposed area. Repor
19、t any adhesive staining or discoloration of the M2F9 Naugahyde. Note: Any immediate wetting through the headlining or the Naugahyde by the adhesive is the result of too much adhesive and is not to be construed as staining or discoloration.
