SCOPE The purpose of this document is to harmonize VIEQ requirements within Ford Motor Company, and
、to document guidelines pertaining to certain materials with regards to Odor, Fogging and the emission of Formaldehyde and Volatile Organic Carbon Compounds (VOCs). In addition, the requirements for allergy testing of materials which have direct skin contact with the vehicle occupants and requirement
、s for exterior air filtration are included. There is debate among the scientific community regarding potential health effects including allergies to the substances listed as well as acceptable exposure level. Ford adopts these guidelines to be consistent, to the extent practicable, with third party
、standard setting organizations such as ISO, SAE, DIN, and EN but does NOT represent them to be a definitive measure of safety. 2. APPLICATION Suffix C4 (paragraph 4) is applicable to complete vehicle requirements ONLY. The requirements established by this Standard apply to all products supplied to F
、ord and assembled into the cabin space and/or air conditioning system. They apply equally to Tier 1 Suppliers, Full Service Suppliers, Proprietary (black box), and Ford-specified items. References to “Ford“ within this document shall be understood to include any Ford designated vehicle platforms. 3.
、 REQUIREMENTS 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Materials suppliers and part producers must conform to Companys Standard Requirements for Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). Materials suppliers and part producers must conform to Companys Standard Requirements for Restricted Subst
、ance Management Standard (WSS-M99P9999-A1). 3.1.1 The primary intent of this Standard is to control emissions from materials and formed articles used in the passenger cabin, load space and air filtration system. Conformance to these requirements must be completed prior to supply of product to Ford.
、4. EMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COMPLETE VEHICLE INTERIOR 4.1 Emissions for the Complete Vehicle Interior The complete interior of the vehicle may be required to be tested to the following requirements, dependent upon the intended market or the brand specific requirements. Sampling Procedure TUV Rheinland Vehicle Level.” The int
、erior air testing is conducted in a new car with an age, which is representative for the time between manufacturing and sales, max. 4 weeks (28 days +/- 5). Because of the known VOC emission behaviour of materials these measurements lead to maximum concentrations which decay with increasing time aft
、er the production date. The objective is to determine the indoor air concentration of volatile organic compounds under the typical conditions of use. The typical temperature in a car is assumed to be 21C. In order to maintain this temperature at higher outdoor temperatures an integrated air conditio
、ning is recommended A sampling tube is installed at the drivers breath position and all windows and doors are closed. Before the measurement the car is conditioned in a climatic chamber at 21 2C for at least 8 h. A sampling tube is installed at the drivers nose position and all windows and doors are
、 closed. During the interior air sampling a temperature of 21 2C is maintained. The driver side door is opened for three minutes, prior to the 30 minute sampling period. The measurement takes place without any air exchange. By this procedure the mean VOC concentration is determined to be what the pa

According to practical observations after 30 min passengers would at least partly open the windows or switch on the fan in order to breathe fresh air and to reduce the carbon dioxide concentration in the interior a
、ir The conditioning and sampling temperatures against time are monitored and recorded by a data logger. The air in the test chamber outside the car is measured simultaneously in order to determine the blank values of VOC components. A second measurement is done after driving the car for 30 min in or

In connection with both measurements the odor of the interior air is documented. Only a weak product typical odor is tolerated. 4.1.1 Limit Value wi
