Although this was a small increase, the way in which the average family spent its income

6、changed greatly.In 2000, the average family income was divided in the following way: 25% was spent on housing, 18% on food and drink, 10% on medical expenses, 7% on entertainment, 10% on travelling and 5% was saved. However, in 2005, a slightly different picture emerges. 32% went to housing, a signi

7、ficant increase, given the fact that average income had increased so little. Food and drink consumed 22% , a slight increase over 2000. Medical expenses(12%)also showed a slight increase. Entertainment expenditures changed slightly at 6% , travelling expenses reduced by 2% and savings were slightly

8、down though the amount saved might remain much the same.It is clear from the chart that although there is an increase in average family income, people in the USA do not live a happier life. This may be attributed to the higher inflation rate and sudden increase in housing and oil prices. According t

9、o a recent report, the inflation rate has reached 5% last year.
