SCOPE1.1 Scope . This specification covers the CCU-44/B Impulse Cartrid

16、of precedence. In the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the referencescited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersedesapplicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 First

17、article. When specified (see 6.2), the contractor shall furnish sample units for first articleinspection and approval (see 4.3).3.2 Conformance to documents. The CCU-44/B impulse cartridge shall be manufactured in accordancewith the drawings and documents listed on DL 5184850. All materials used in

18、the manufacture of thecartridges shall conform with the specifications referenced on the respective drawings.3.3 Primary components. For the purpose of this specification, the header glass seal assembly (Drawing5184834), the ignition element loaded assembly (Drawing 5184831), and the main propellant

19、 charge(Drawing 5184839) are defined as primary components.3.3.1 Header glass seal assembly. The header glass seal assembly shall be manufactured in accordancewith the drawings listed on DL 5184850 and undergo the tests listed in 4.6.1.3.3.2 Ignition element. The ignition element shall be manufactur

20、ed in accordance with the drawingslisted on DL 5184850 and shall meet the following requirements when tested as specified in 4.6.2.3.3.2.1 Ignition delay time. Ignition delay time shall not exceed 10 milliseconds (see 6.3.5).3.3.2.2 Time to maximum pressure. The time to maximum pressure shall not ex

21、ceed 25 milliseconds(see 6.3.6).3.3.2.3 Maximum pressure. The minimum allowable value of maximum pressure shall be 2,000 psi.3.3.3 Propellant charge.3.3.3.1 Quantity. All propellant charges shall conform to Drawing 5184839. Charges shall bedetermined by weight rather than volume measurements.Provide

Do not subject smokeless powder to unnecessaryhandling or exposure to the atmosphere. The handling and loading of smokeless powder exposed to thea

23、tmosphere shall be performed only under conditions that do not permit the relative humidity to exceed75 percent.3.3.3.3 Smokeless powder, condition. The smokeless powder utilized shall exhibit no evidence ofdecomposition.3.4 Cartridge inspection.3.4.1 Visual inspection. Cartridges shall be free of v

24、isual defects such as, but not limited to burrs, dents,deep scratches, split or cracked crimp, defective sealant application around crimp, chipped surfaces, orother defects which may prevent entry of the cartridge into the firing chamber, or affect the environmentalstability of the cartridge.3.4.2 B

25、ridge circuit resistance. The resistance of the bridge circuit of each completely assembledcartridge, when measured electrically, shall be not less than .95 ohm nor more than 1.25 ohms (see4.6.3.2).3.4.3 Leakage. Cartridge leakage rate shall not exceed 10-4 cc of gas or air per second (see 4.6.3.3).

26、3.4.4 Radiographic examination. Cartridges shall be free of imperfections in components of assemblyas verified by radiographic examination of all first article and production samples of 3.1, 3.3.2 and 3.5.3.4.5 Electrode recess. The electrode recess shall be verified 100 percent during acceptance te

27、sting. Ifone or more samples fail to meet requirements, the contractor shall be required to screen the entire lotrepresented (see 4.6.3.6).3.5 Ballistic requirements. Cartridges from each first article and production lot shall be capable ofpropelling a 475 pound mass horizontally when fired in the v

28、ariable volume test fixture at an initialvolume of 3.7 cubic inches and shall meet the requirements listed below (see 4.6).3.5.1 Ignition delay time. Ignition delay time shall not exceed 10 milliseconds (see 6.3.5).3.5.2 Time to maximum thrust. The time to maximum thrust shall not exceed 30 millisec

29、onds (see6.3.7).3.5.3 Thrust. The upper limit of thrust shall be 12,200 lbf.3.5.4 Velocity. The lower limit of velocity shall be 22 ft/sec, (see 6.3.8).3.5.5 Misfire. There shall be no misfires.3.6 Change in propellant lot. Whenever a change occurs in the propellant lot test firings shall beconducte

30、d in accordance with 4.7. No cartridge shall produce results outside the limits specified in 3.5.1through 3.5.4 and no cartridge shall fail to meet the requirement of 3.5.5.3.7 Packaging, packing and marking. The packaging and packing of cartridges and the containermarkings shall be in accordance wi

Cartridges shall be constructed and finished in a manner to assure compliance withall requirements of this specification. Particular attention sh

32、ould be directed to dimensions, finishes andassembly operations.4. VERIFICATION4.1 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are classified as follows:a. First article inspection (see 4.3)b. Quality conformance inspection (see 4.5)4.2 Inspection conditions. Unless o

33、therwise specified, all inspections shall be performed in accordancewith the test conditions specified in 4.6 and 4.7.4.3 First article inspection. First article inspection shall be performed after award of contract and priorto production at a location acceptable to the Government. First article ins

34、pection shall be performed onsample units which have been produced with equipment and procedures normally used in production.First article approval is valid only on the contract under which it is granted, unless extended by theGovernment to other contracts.4.3.1 Sample size. Unless otherwise specifi

35、ed (see 6.2), 25 header glass assemblies, 25 loaded ignitionelement assemblies and 94 cartridge assemblies shall be submitted for first article inspection.4.3.2 Inspection routine.4.3.2.1 Header glass seal assembly. The header glass seal assembly shall be tested as specified in 4.6.1.4.3.2.2 Ignitio

36、n element loaded assemblies. The ignition element loaded assemblies shall be loadedinto modified cartridge cases conforming to Drawing 5184845 and tested as specified in 4.6.2.4.3.2.3 Cartridge assembly. The cartridges shall undergo the tests of 4.6.3 following environmentalexposure as described in

37、MIL-D-81303. Tolerance on temperatures shall be 5 F. The environmentalexposures shall be as follows: temperature and humidity (18), vibration (12), 20 “g“ shock (12), 6-footdrop (6), 70F (12), 65F (12), and 200 F (12). The number in parentheses denotes number ofcartridges. Temperature conditioning a

38、t the extremes shall be no less than 6 hours and no more than 24hours. Firings shall be conducted in the variable volume test fixture. No cartridge shall produce resultsoutside the limits of 3.5.1 through 3.5.4 and no cartridge shall fail to meet the limits of 3.5.5.4.3.3 Failures. The failure of an

39、y cartridge to meet the requirements as stated above shall causerejection of the first article sample. If more than 5 cartridges fail the leak test specified in 4.6.3.3 the firstarticle sample shall be rejected.4.4 Classification of characteristics. The characteristics verified by the tests and exam

40、inations hereinare classified as Critical, Major or Minor in accordance with DOD-STD-2101. Tests and examinationsthat verify critical characteristics are identified by the symbol (C) and major characteristics by the symbol(M). The number following the classification symbol indicates the serial numbe

41、r of test or examination.Tests and examinations which are not annotated with a classification code are classified minor.4.5 Quality conformance inspection. Quality conformance inspection shall consist of verification ofthe characteristics classified on the drawings of DL 5184850 and the following:Pr

Cartridgesselected for the ballistic tests shall be delivered to the activity designated by the contracting agency.4.5.2 Sampling. Unless

44、otherwise specified, and when applicable, the sampling plans and proceduresused in the determination of the acceptability of products submitted by a supplier shall be in accordancewith the provisions of ANSI/ASQC Z1.4, inspection level I with all functional testing conducted with thecriteria accept

45、0 reject 1. In addition, 10 cartridges shall be randomly selected from each lot and retainedfor investigative purposes.4.5.3 Packaging, packing and marking. Quality conformance inspection shall be conducted inaccordance with the inspection criteria on the applicable drawings referenced in Section 5.

46、4.6 First article tests.4.6.1 Header glass seal assembly. The header glass seal assembly shall be inspected for conformance tothe requirements of Drawing 5184834. The header glass seal assembly shall undergo the tests listed belowand meet the requirements specified on Drawing 5184834.4.6.1.1 Dead lo

47、ad. The header glass seal assembly shall be capable of supporting a 300 pound dead loadas detailed on Drawing 5184834.4.6.1.2 Header integrity test. The header glass seal assembly shall be capable of withstanding 30,000 500 psi hydrostatic pressure as detailed on Drawing 5184834.4.6.1.3 Dielectric w

48、ithstanding voltage. 49、After visual, radiographic and leakage inspections, the ignitionelement assemblies shall undergo the tests listed below in the sequence given. The ignition elements,installed in modified cartridge cases, shall be conditioned at 70 5 F for a minimum of 4 hours prior totesting.4.6.2.1 Power-current test. Each ignition element in the first article test sample shall have a directcurrent of not less than one ampere supplying a minimum of one watt applied to the b
