SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This spec

2、ification covers the requirements for aircrew eye protective visor assemblies which provide protection against multiple fixed laser wavelengths. The visors may be used by all fixed and rotary wing aircrew. 1.2 Classification. The type designators of the visor assemblies covered by this specification

3、 are as follows: EEU-8/P (HGU-68/P fi xed wing aircrew helmet assembly) EEU-12/P(HGU-lZP and HGU-67/P rotary wing helmet assembly) EEU-13/P(HGU-68/P(V) fixed wing helmet assembly) EEU-14/P(HGU-68/P fixed wing aircrew helmet assembly) EEU-15/P(HGU-87/P fixed wing aircrew helmet assembly) AIHS (HGU-56

In the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the references cited herein (except for related associated specifications, specification sheets, or MS standards), the text of this documen

12、t takes precedence. Nothing in the document, however, shall supersede applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Individual visor requirements. The individual visor requirements shall be as specified herein. 3.2 First article inspection. When s

13、pecified, (6.2) samples shall be subjected to first article inspection (6.4) in accordance with 4.3. 3.3 Materi al s. Materi al s shall conform to the appl icabl e procurement documents as specified herein. Materials which are not covered by these documents or are not specifically described herein,

14、shall be of the best quality, of the lightest practical weight and suitable for the purpose intended. It is encouraged that recycled material be used when practical as long as it meets the requirements of this specification. 3.3.1 Visor matefia. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), the polycarbonat

The design and dimensions of the

16、 visors shall be as specified herein. The visor shall have the same physical dimensions, fir and function as the visors identified in figures 1 through 7. The visor shall afford protection for aircrew against the specified wavelengths to the required densities (6.2) throughout the entire safety zone

17、 (see 4.5.4.2). The front and back surfaces of the visor shall have a clear coating which meets the abrasion resistance, adhesion and environmental requirements specified herein. The front and back surfaces of the visor shall have an anti-reflection coating. All cockpit displays, phosphors (P43) and

18、 lights shall be visible when the visor is worn. 3.4.1 Area of vision. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), the visor shall have three areas of vision which are identified as: critical area, non-critical area and the area outside of these areas of vision (no optical requirement). The center point f

19、or the left and right critical areas (area 1L of a visor and is intended to serve as a guide for purposes of determining matching areas of the left and right sides of the visor. The left and right in 4.5.3 shall match in prism, power and transmittance to the requirements of 3.7.1 and 3.7.2. b one in

20、 the center and one in each of the critical vision areas. The ballistics test shall be considered valid only if it meets any of the following: a. The impact velocity of the projectile is between 550 feet per second and 560 feet per second. b. The impact velocity of the projectile is less than 550 fe

21、et per second and the impacted visor fails to meet the requirements in 3.7.4.1. c. The impact velocity of the projectile is more than 560 feet per second and the impacted visor meets the requirements in 3.7.4.1. Before and after the surface abrasion procedure, the transmittance and haze shall be determined as specified in 4.5.4 and 4.5.4.4. The surface abrasion procedu

23、re shall be performed as specified in ASTM D1044 or by an equivalent method using the instrument illustrated in figure 15. The standardized eraser shall be held approximately normal to the surface and rubbed across the surface of the coated visor over the same path from one point to another for 20 c

24、omplete cycles with a force of 2.0 to 2.5 pounds continuously applied. Wherever possible, rubs of about 1 inch length are preferred. After the rubbing has been completed, the visor shall be thoroughly cleaned to remove dirt, film, fingermarks and grease marks using a mild detergent and distilled wat

25、er followed by drying with a soft cloth or lens tissue. The visor shall pass the requirements specified in 3.7.4.2. 4.5.6.3 Adhesion of coatinq. Immediately upon completion of the humidity test and removal from the humidity chamber, the samples shall be dried with a cotton cloth and then subjected t

26、o the adhesion test. A test tape, with an adhesion rating of 40 ounces per inch of width, shall be firmly applied to the front surface of the visor. The area covered shall be 2 square inches. The tape shall be removed using a snapping motion applied 90 degrees to the surface. The visor shall pass th

27、e requirements specified in 3.7.4.3. 4.5.6.4 Windbl.ast resistance. The laser protective visor assembly shall be installed on a helmet with an oxygen mask as worn. The visor shall be placed in a full down and locked position. There shall be a minimum gap between the visor and the oxygen mask. This a

28、ssemblage shall be fitted to a head form securely mounted to a test platform and shall be subjected to windblast tests as fol 1 ows : For the EEU-8/P and EEU-15/P the visor assemblies shall be exposed to windblast velocities of 600 -C 60 KEAS at each of the following attitudes in the order 1 i sted:

29、 a. head on/ head up b. rotated 45O starboard/head up c. head on/tilted 45O aft d. rotated 45“ port/tilted 45O aft For the EEU-l3/P and EEU-l4/P the visor assemblies shall be exposed to windblast velocities of 450 I 20 KEAS at each of the following attitudes in the order 1 isted: a. head on b. c. d.

30、 30 pitch aft rotated 45O yaw to right rotated 45O yaw to left The time of exposure to this maximum range shall be 300 -e 50 ms, and the rise time to reach peak velocity shall be 125 -e 20 ms. The total windblast duration shall be at least 3.0 seconds. The helmet assembly and visor assembly shall pa

The overlay template shall be the correct size and shape when compared to the visor it is designed for. It shall meet the requir

32、ements of 3.6. 4.5.8 Surface and other defects examination procedure. The visors shall be visually examined at a distance of 10 to 14 inches with fluorescent backlighting and broad diffuse backlighting. The fluorescent source shall be a single 40 watt, 2 foot tube. The fluorescent backlight shall be

33、 mounted in front of a black matte background. In addition, a diffusely scattering white surface shall be illuminated by the same fluorescent source. The visors shall be examined in transmission against the fluorescent tube for coating defects, specks, particulate matter, etc. The visor shall be vie

34、wed in transmission against the diffuse, illuminated white source for streaks, striations and non-uniformity of coloration. A suggested configuration is given in figure 16. 4.5.8.1 Surface defects. The visors shall be examined as specified in 4.5.8 using a template to define the critical area of vis

35、ion, the non-critical area of vision and the area outside the area of vision as shown in figure 8. The visors shall meet the requirements of 3.10.1. 4.5.8.2 Other defects. 4.5.8.2.1 Visual examination. The visors shall be examined as specified The visors shall meet the requirements of 3.10.2.1 throu

36、gh 3.10.2.6. in 4.5.8. 4.5.8.2.2 Sharp edqe or burr. The visors shall be physically examined for sharp edges or burrs. The examination shall consist of donning a pair of clean cotton gloves and running the palm along the edge of the visor. The detection of a sharp edge or burr shall be cause for rej

37、ection as specified in 3.10.2.7. 5.0 PACKAGING. 5.1 Packaqinq. For acquisition purposes, the packaging requirements shall be as specified in the contract or order (see 6.2). When actual packaging of material is to be performed by DoD personnel, these personnel need to contact the responsible packagi

38、ng activity to ascertain requisite packaging requirements. Packaging requirements are maintained by the Inventory Control Points packaging activity within the Military Department or Defense Agency, or within the Military Departments System Command. Packaging data retrieval is available from the mana

39、ging Military Departments or Defense Agencys automated packaging files, CD- ROM products, or by contracting the responsible packaging activity. 6. NOTES. (This section contains information of a general or explanatory nature that may be helpful, but is not mandatory.) 6.1 Intended use. The visors cov

41、auirements. Acquisition documents must specify the fol- 1 owing : a. b. C. d. e. f. g* 6.3 Title, number and date of this specification. Issue of DODISS to be cited in the solicitation and if required the specific issue of individual documents referenced (see 2.2). Instructions for requesting classi

42、fied information. (The applicable wavelengths and the required densities to be supplied only upon submission of a request from the manufacturer which is accompanied by a secret clearance.) Whether first article inspection is waived (4.3.1) The number of first article visors required and lot size (4.

43、3.1). Name and address of first article inspection laboratory (see 4.3.1), name of the Government activity responsible for conducting the first article inspection program (see 4.3.1.1) and the conformance inspection program (see 4.4). Packaging requirements (see 5.1). First article testing. When fir

44、st article testing is required, the contracting officer should provide specific guidance to offerors whether the item(s) should be a first article sample, a first article item, or a standard production item from the contractors current inventory and the number of items to be tested as specified in 4

45、.3.1. The contracting officer should include specific instructions in acquisition documents regarding arrangements for examinations, approval of production qualification test results and disposition of the production qualification items. Invitations for bids should provide that the Government reserv

46、es the right to waive the requirement for samples for first article inspection to those bidders offering a product which has been previously acquired or tested by the Government, and that bidders offering such products, who wish to rely on such production or test, must furnish evidence with the bid
