、equirements, EPA SNAP Differences.Supercedes prior Certification Requirement Decision issued March 1, 2012.DECISION:SA3.3 The charge size for refrigerators or freezers shall be as follows for the kind of refrigerant used. Ifthe refrigerator contains multiple refrigeration circuits, the charge limit

、is applied to each refrigerationcircuit:a) No charge limit - ASHRAE 34 Class 1 “No-Flame Propagation” refrigerant. Has no limits of flammability, has either an autoignition temperature less than or equal to 750C (1382F) or no autoignitiontemperature.b) No charge limit - When the blend complies with t

、he exception to SA3.4.c) 225 grams (8.0 oz) - ASHRAE 34 Class 2 “Lower Flammability” refrigerant. Has limits of flammability, and heat of combustion less than 19,000 kj/kg (8,174 Btu/lb). When the leaked amount of refrigerantduring leak scenario testing of the refrigerating system, does not exceed 22

、5 grams (8.0 oz), a largeramount of charge is not prohibited from being used.d) 57 50 grams (2.01 1.7 oz) - ASHRAE 34 Class 3 “Higher Flammability” refrigerant. Has limits offlammability and heat of combustion greater than 19,000 kj/kg (8,174 Btu/lb). When the leaked amount ofrefrigerant during leak

、 scenario testing of the refrigerating system does not exceed 50 grams (1.7 oz), alarger amount of charge is not prohibited from being used.SA5.1.2.6 The concentration of leaked refrigerant inside the food storage compartments and inside anyinternal or external electrical component compartment is to

、 be measured continuously from the beginningof the test and for at least one 24 hours after the injection of the refrigerant vapor has stopped. Theinstrument used for monitoring the refrigerant concentration, such as gas chromatography which usesinfrared sensing techniques, should have a fast speed

、of response (typically 2 or 3 seconds) and notinfluence the result of the test.SA6.1.1 The following markings, or the equivalent, shall be provided at the locations indicated and shallbe permanent when a flammable refrigerant is used:a) On or near any evaporators that can be contacted by the consume

Do Not Puncture Refrigerant Tubing”.b) Near the machine compartment: “DANGER Risk Of Fire Or Explosion. FlammableRefrigerant Used. To Be Repaired Only By Trained Service Personnel.

、Do Not PunctureRefrigerant Tubing”.UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULc) Near the machine compartment: “CAUTION Risk Of Fire Or Explosion. The markings in SA6.1.1shall be in letters no less than 6.4 3.2 mm (1/4 1.8 inch) high.SA6.1.3 The refrigeration system processing tubes shall be color coded to indicat

、e the refrigerant used. The color coding shall be in accordance with Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) GuidelineN. The minimum color area shall be 100mm2(0.155 in.2) and be clearly visible from the repair accessarea. Color coding may be waived if the process tube is located near the

、compressor and a label is affixednearby indicating the refrigerant type. Refrigeration tubing or other devices through which the refrigerantis intended to be serviced shall be painted or colored red, Pantone Matching System (PMS) No. 185.This color shall be present at all places where service punctu

In the case of a process tube on a compressor, the color mark shallextend at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) from the compressor.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:On December 20, 2011, the EPA published their Final Rule pertaining to the

、use of hydrocarbonrefrigerants in household and retail (commercial) refrigeration equipment. The rule allows for the use ofisobutane, propane, and R-441A refrigerants in self-contained new equipment, subject to various useconditions. This CRD contains the revisions that are necessary to align the re

、quirements of UL 250 withthe EPAs Final Rule. Note that UL 250 will allow for the use of additional types of flammable refrigerants, even though the Final Rule only allows R-600a (Isobutane) and R-441A.In addition, the monitoring time for the protected cooling system leakage test is being changed to
