、Designation: F842 17Standard Test Methods forMeasuring the Forced Entry Resistance of Sliding DoorAssemblies, Excluding Glazing Impact1This standard is issued under the fixed designation F842; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year of originaladoption or, in the case of
、revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. A superscriptepsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the U.S. Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 These test

Summary of Test Method4.1 The procedure consists
、of mounting a sliding doorspecimen into a test assembly fixture which in turn is mountedto a wall support fixture, and, after removing all exteriorfasteners and loose component items, specified loads andforces are applied to the sliding door test specimen in aFIG. 1 Typical Horizontal Sliding Door A

Following removal of all loads, a deter-mination is made by the laboratory technician, as defined bySection 9 of Specification E699, whether or not entry can begained through the sliding door test specimen from the exterior.5. Sign
、ificance and Use5.1 These test methods are intended to establish a measureof resistance for sliding door assemblies subjected to attacks(other than impacting glazing materials) by unskilled oropportunistic burglars. Resistance to higher levels of forcegenerated by skilled burglary attack requires me
、thods, such asalarms, communication, or apprehension systems, or specialsecurity glazing materials more sophisticated than those evalu-ated by these test methods. Technicians performing the testshould understand the intent of this test method and should betrained on the execution and pass/fail crite
、ria.5.2 Entry through a sliding door assembly can be accom-plished by impacting or removing glazing materials. Thismethod does not evaluate glazing materials for breakage orde-glazing. Other standards must be used to evaluate forcedentry by impacting or removing glazing.5.3 Acceptance criteria for p
、erformance levels are a matterfor authorities having specific jurisdiction to establish. Sug-gested guidelines are found in Annex A1.6. Test Criteria6.1 Sliding Door Test SpecimenThe same sliding doorassembly shall be used for all testing and shall contain panelshaving the greatest height and width
、for which approval issought. Each unique panel/frame arrangement and lockingarrangement shall be tested.6.1.1 The construction of the sliding door test specimen, including all hardware, components, and arrangement of panelsshall be representative of that for which acceptance is desired.6.1.2 The slid
、ing door test specimen shall consist of theentire assembled unit, including frame, glazing, and anchorageas supplied by the manufacturer for installation in the building.6.1.3 Unless otherwise specified, the test specimen shallcontain the weakest code compliant safety glazing for testingand shall be
、 single glazed if designed for either single ordouble glazing, or double glazed if designed exclusively formultiple glazing. Products tested with glazing materials otherthan the weakest code compliant safety glazing shall qualifyonly the specific glazing material tested.6.1.4 Sliding door assemblies
、 tested with more than onelocking device shall not qualify sliding door assemblies withfewer locking devices, regardless of size.6.2 Performance CriteriaThe performance level is at-tained if all locking devices remain engaged and entry cannotbe gained during the test or upon removal of loads. If dur
、ingtesting, any component, including the glazing material, fails, allowing entry, this shall be considered a failure to attain theperformance level. Glazing which breaks, but does not allowentry, shall not be considered a failure to attain the perfor-mance level.6.3 Multiple PanelsSliding door assemb

If multiplepanels within a sliding door assembly are identical in construc-tion and locking condition, only one panel need be tested.6.4 Test SequencePerform the tests f
