23、e Service (G3 AFax) A standard Group 3 facsimile machine1uses a 2 wire loop interface (the RJ-11 in North America) to connect to the PSTN. Through this analog, voice band, connection, the machine communicates with another fax machine using the appropriate G3 fax protocols. Supporting the operation o
24、f such fax machines is necessary in a wireless telephone system where subscribers expect to use their standard fax machines to send and receive faxes through their wireless subscriber unit. The G3 AFax Service shall allow digital wireless subscribers to send and receive faxes using standard Group 3
25、fax machines and fax modems. The fax machine connects to the Wireless Access Subscriber Unit (WASU), sometimes called a Fixed Wireless Terminal (FWT), through the 2 wire loop interface as it would to the PSTN. The figure below shows one possible configuration. It should be noted that the WASU or FWT
26、 can be stationed either inside or outside the subscribers premises. Subscriber mobility while using this service is not precluded. 27、the 2 wire loop interface, the wireless digital network, and the PSTN to allow the proper transmission of fax documents. This shall be done in a manner that is transparent to the G3 analog fax machines involved in the fax transaction. WASU originated service may be one of two types: Automatic G3 AFa
28、x or Dial-Prefix Selected Service. WASU terminated service may be one of four types: Automatic G3 AFax, G3 AFax DN, Two-Stage Dialing, or Pre-selection. 1The term “fax machine” is used to describe a standard fax machine, a fax modem connected to a computer, or any other fax device that operates acco

30、s Services G3 AFax is applicable to data telecommunication services. 1.1 Normal Procedures with Successful Outcome Authorization G3 AFax may be provided after prearrangement with the service provider, or may be made generally available by the service provider. Deauthorization If G3 AFax is provided
31、after prearrangement with the service provider, the service shall be deauthorized at the subscribers request or for administrative reasons. Registration G3 AFax has no registration. Deregistration G3 AFax has no deregistration. Activation G3 AFax shall be activated upon authorization and invocation.
32、 Deactivation G3 AFax shall be deactivated by any of the following: Deauthorization; Either fax machine hanging up; Detection of fax messages requesting a change to voice service (operator interrupt requests). Invocation WASU Origination WASU originated service may be one of two types: Automatic G3
33、AFax or Dial-Prefix Selected Service (at least one of these options must be supported). Automatic G3 AFax This method relies on the sending of fax tones or messages by either fax machine indicating the start of a fax transaction. 35、e directory number of the terminating party. The terminating fax machine answers the call in auto-answer mode and the two machines automatically begin the fax transaction. This type of origination shall support multiple services on a single directory number and should also support a directory number
36、 dedicated to fax. In another case, the call is answered manually as a voice call, and when the fax machines are made ready, the users manually switch their fax machines to start the fax transaction. In another case, the terminating fax machine answers the call in auto-answer mode. Upon hearing the
37、fax tones, the wireless subscriber manually directs the fax machine to start the fax transaction. Dial-Prefix Selected Service A wireless subscriber originates a G3 AFax call from the fax machine to a terminating party using a dial-prefix for G3 AFax service. The calling fax machine dials the dial-p
38、refix followed by the directory number of the terminating fax machine. The terminating fax machine answers the call in auto-answer mode and the two machines automatically begin the fax transaction. WASU Termination WASU terminated service may be one of four types: Automatic G3 AFax, G3 AFax DN, Two-
39、Stage Dialing, or Pre-selection (at least one of these options must be supported). Automatic G3 AFax This type of termination relies on the sending of fax tones or messages by either fax machine indicating the start of a fax transaction. The originating party (PSTN or another wireless user) starts a
40、 G3 AFax call to a terminating wireless subscriber by dialing the directory number of the subscriber. The terminating fax machine answers the call in auto-answer mode and the two machines automatically begin the fax transaction. In another case, the call is answered manually as a voice call, and whe
41、n the fax machines are made ready, the users manually switch their fax machines to start the fax transaction. In another case, the terminating fax machine answers the call in auto-answer mode. Upon hearing the fax tones, the originating party manually directs the originating fax machine to start the
42、 fax transaction. G3 AFax DN The terminating party has a separate DN for the G3 AFax service which the originating fax equipment dials to start the call. The terminating fax machine answers the call in auto-answer mode and the two machines automatically begin the fax transaction. Two-Stage Dialing T
43、he wireless carrier has one or more DNs for G3 AFax service. Because the number is related to the service, it is shared by all wireless subscribers. An originating party places a call to one of the G3 AFax DNs. The number selected corresponds to the requested G3 AFax service. When the G3 AFax servic
44、e returns dial tone, the originating partys fax machine dials the terminating wireless subscribers DN.
