2、ment of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification is for a type of carrying case, designated as Case, Carrying for M198/M119 Fire Control Optics (See 6.1). 1.2 Classification. Items covered by this specification should be of the following: Type I Carrying Case, Fire Control for M198 Type II Ca

3、rrying Case, Fire Control for M119 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS. 2.1 General. The documents listed in this section are specified in Sections 3 and 4 of this specification. This does not include documents cited in other sections of this specification or recommended for additional information or as example

In the event of a conflict between the text of this documen

13、t and the references cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), in the contract, a sample shall be

14、subjected to first article inspection in accordance with 4.1. 3.2 Design, materials, and manufacturing processes. Unless otherwise specified, the design, materials, and manufacturing process selection is the prerogative of the contractor as long as all articles submitted to the Government fully meet

15、 the functional and operating requirements specified. 3.3 Operating requirements. Each carrying case shall provide the following functional, operational, and performance capabilities. 3.3.1 Color. The carrying case shall be a uniformly non-reflective forest green color, chip #34079 of FED-STD-595. 3

16、.3.2 Ease of use. All types of cases shall have the following features to accommodate user needs: a. A means of releasing internal pressure (by a person wearing MOPP IV gloves) to allow ease of opening following changes in altitude. b. One handle on the top (latch side) of the case to enable ease of

17、 stowage and removal from the rack on the howitzer, as well as ease in transport by a single person wearing cold weather protective gloves. c. 18、F-32062 (AR) 4 single person wearing cold weather protective gloves, while providing sufficient force to meet sealing requirements. d. The cover and lid shall be connected with a hinge to allow easy removal and placement of items in case. Top and bottom of case must remain attached when opened. 3.3.

19、3 Marking. Each carrying case shall have the markings respective to the part number specified in the solicitation as indicated in Table I. The markings shall be externally applied by any method commonly used by the contractor in contrasting colors relative to the background color. The case and marki

20、ngs shall not become discolored, degraded, or illegible throughout all phases of the verification testing. The “ID MARKINGS” letter height shall be a minimum of 1.0 inches and located across the flat of the cover. Identification of the case cover shall be designated by arrows and “UP” to identify th

21、e orientation of the case. Table I. Each carrying case shall meet the following requirements. 3.4.1 Weight. The carrying case sha

22、ll weigh no more than 20 pounds. 3.4.2 Physical dimensions. 3.4.2.1 Type I. The carrying case shall have minimum outside dimensions of 20.0 inches in width by 8.5 inches in height by 20.0 inches in length and maximum outside dimensions of 20.38 inches width by 8.7 inches height by 21.0 inches in len

23、gth. 3.4.2.2 Type II. The carrying case shall have minimum outside dimensions of 20.0 inches in width by 8.5 inches in height by 20.0 inches in length and maximum outside dimensions of 25.0 inches width by 11.0 inches height by 25.0 inches in length. 3.4.3 Cushion inserts. The inside dimensions of t

24、he carrying case shall accommodate the cushion inserts for each type case in the locations shown on the respective figure. The outside dimensions of the cushions shall be consistent with the inside dimensions of the case to ensure a tight fit in the case shell. The cushioning material shall conform

The cushions must be secured to the interior of the case by means commonly utilized by the contractor

27、n the locations as shown in Figure 1 for Type I and Figure 2 for Type II. The plates shall be adhered to the case shell by any means normally utilized by the contractor, which will remain intact throughout case operations at all temperature extremes. Each carrying case shall possess the following life cycle ownership characteristics. 3.5.1 Safety. Each carrying case shall present no physical handling h

29、azards, such as sharp protrusions, to the persons using them. 3.6 Operating environment requirements. Each carrying case shall operate under and after exposure to the following environmental conditions without damage or loss of performance. 3.6.1 Temperature. At low temperatures down to 40oF. At hig

30、h temperatures up to +150oF. 3.6.2 Drop. The carrying case shall not suffer damage or loss of performance after 3 drops from a height of four (4) feet onto a smooth concrete surface with a load as specified in 4.7.3. 3.6.3 Waterproofness. The carrying case shall not leak when submerged in water for

35、62 (AR) 7 a. First article inspection (see 4.2). b. Conformance inspection (see 4.3). 4.1.1 Verification conditions. Unless otherwise specified, all inspections shall be performed in accordance with the test conditions specified. 4.1.2 Classification of characteristics. For examinations and tests ci

36、ted herein or when required by the contract, critical, major, and minor characteristics are defined in Section 3 of MIL-STD-1916. 4.2 First article inspection. When specified in the contract, a sample of the carrying case shall be subjected to first article verification in accordance with Table III.

37、 4.2.1 First article quantity. First article verification shall be performed on three carrying cases. 4.2.2 Inspections to be performed. As determined by the Government, the first article assemblies, components and test specimens shall be subjected to any or all of the examinations and tests specifi

38、ed in this specification and be inspected for compliance with any or all requirements of the specification and the applicable drawings. 4.2.3 First article rejection. If any assembly, components or test specimen fails to comply with any of the applicable requirements, the first article sample shall

39、be rejected. The Government reserves the right to terminate inspection upon any failure of an assembly, component or test specimens to comply with any of the requirements. 4.3 Conformance verification. Sampling for conformance verification shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-1916. The sample shall m

40、eet the conformance inspection tests as specified in Table III. Unless otherwise specified in the contract, the item shall be returned to the lot after successful completion of testing. If the conditions stated are not met, the lot shall be rejected. 4.4 Operating verification. 4.4.1 Color. The exte

41、rior surfaces of the carrying case shall be visually examined compared to color chip 34079 of FED-STD-595 to verify that the color is uniform forest green. 4.4.2 Ease of use. 42、IHS-,-MIL-PRF-32062 (AR) 8 weather protective gloves (on both hands). Lay the case flat, open and close the case a minimum of five times. The case shall open and close freely without binding. The latch shall be moved from the closed to open to closed position without binding. Pick up the case by the

43、 handle. The handle shall be securely attached to the case in that there shall be no visible space between the handle and the case at the mating junctures. The case material shall show no evidence of delamination, distortion, cracking or bubbling following the test. 4.4.3 Marking. The case shall be

44、visually inspected to verify all marking conditions. The markings shall remain unblemished throughout the operational requirements testing of 4.5. 4.5 Interface verification. 4.5.1 Weight verification. Case shall be weighed on a commercial scale. Weight of each case is to be no more than 20 lbs. 4.5

45、.2 Dimension verification. The external dimensions of the carrying case shall be measured and shall not exceed the dimensions specified in 3.4.2. 4.5.3 Cushion insert verification. The cavities of each cushion insert shall be measured to ensure compliance with the conditions of 3.4.3. The case shall

46、 be grasped by the cushion and lifted to ensure security. The test will be performed by personnel meeting the 95 percentile male or 5 percentile female soldier. 4.5.4 Identification plate verification. The location and inscriptions of the identification plates shall be visually examined to ensure co

47、mpliance with the conditions of 3.4.4. 4.6 Ownership and support verification. 4.6.1 Safety verification. Inspect the carrying case to be free of hazardous burrs, cracks, deformation, distortion, disconnects, rings, bulges, or sharp edges that would prevent proper seating alignment, engagement, or a

48、ssembly of pallet components, posing physical danger to the operator or equipment. 4.7 Operating environment verification. Each case to be tested will be exposed to all tests from this section. All cases shall be tested for proper functioning and inspected for damages prior to starting tests. Provid

Subject a case to air temperature of 40F for a period of one hour after internal temperature stabilization of the test item. At the end of the one hour period, while the case is at the 4
