3、approved for use by the U.S. Army Tank- Automotive Command, Department of the Army, and is available for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE i. i Scope. This specification covers 3 cornmerciai semitrailer for storing, transporting, and charging compressed heliu

4、m gas. The tandem axle semitrailer mounts 38 cylinders having a combined water capacity of not less than 340 cubic feet and a design working pressure of at least 2400 pounds per square inch gage (pcig). this specification are commercial items which shall be warranted as specified in the procurement

Except as specified in 3.1.1 through 3.1.1.2, the vehicle, components, assemblies, and accessories to be delivered under the contract

20、 shall be the manufacturers standard or optional items, which meet or exceed the requirements of this specification. represented and rated in the vehicle and equipment manufacturers technical data except the general configuration shall be as shown in figure 1. Technical data shall be limited to spec

21、ifications and technical material, identical to that furnished to the authorized company representatives for selection of vehicle models and components, and shall be on file in the engineering offices of the procuring activity prior to delivery of the items. The vehicle and furnished accessories sha

22、ll comply with all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards in effect on the date of manufacture. All vehicle items shall be as 3.1.1 Special requirements. In addition to the standard vehicle and components specified in 3.1, the vehicle shall be furnished with special equipment as specified herein. *

23、3.1.1.1 Treatment, painting identification marking and data plates. As specified by the procuring activity for the appropriate service (see 6.2), treatment, painting, identification marking, and data plates shall be In accordance with MIL-STD-1223. 3.1.1.1.1 Type gas. The name of the gas, “HELIUM,“

24、shall be painted on each side of the semitrailer forward of the control cabinet assembly in block letters 4 inches high. All valves, gages, controls, and indicators used in operation of the semitrailer shall be identified by securely attached nameplates of such composition that exposure to oil; dirt, light and moisture will not fade or cause them to become eradicated, 3.1.1.2 Drain plugs. All drain plugs

26、 installed throughout the Semitrailer for the purpose of draining lubricants shall be of the magnetic type. 3.2 Vehicle weight and ratings. 3.2.1 Curb weight. The curb weight of the semitrailer shall include all attachments, accessories, equipment and the 38 helium pressure vessels installed on the

The semitrailer shall be designed to provide a readily mobile high-pressure gas storage pressure vessel assembly s

30、uitable for filling with helium gas at a generating site or railroad siding, transporting the gas to a using location, storing the helium gas, and charging the gas with the using apparatus at high flow rates. The semitrailer cylinder mountings and hold down devices shall be designed to withstand an

31、acceleration factor of 1-1/2 g (g = gross weight of the semitrailer), for a minimum of 0.1 second in any and all directions. ambient temperatures up to plus 160 degrees Fahrenheit (OF) and exposure to solar radiation. 32、e shall be demonstrated with the loaded semitrailer equipped with all attachments, accessories, and the 38 pressure vessels; completely serviced and adjusted; and when being towed by a towing vehicle. The semitrailer shall be capable of being towed over improved roads at speeds up to 55 miles per ho

33、ur (mph), and over dry improved gravel roads at speeds up to 10 mph with no evidence of failure, malfunction, or deformation of the semitrailer, components, attachments or accessories. 3.4.1 Tracking ability. The semitrailer shall follow the towing vehicle over dry, level, smooth, prepared, hard-sur

37、.52, * 3.5 Dimensions and clearances. The minimum dimensions and clearances shall be as specified in table I, when measured with the semitrailer uncoupled from the towing vehicle, resting on the landing gear and tires, with the semitrailer horizontal to ground level, and without payload. Axle, suspension, wheel and tire ratings shall be for highway speeds (over 50 mph). Chassis construction shall be the manufacturers standard frame or

Axle ratings shall be at least equal to the load imposed on each axle, measured at the ground with the semitrailer loaded with rated payload as specified in 3.2.2. The wheel bea

49、rings and axle spindles shall be oil lubricated. The oil viscosity shall be in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations. The hubs shall be fitted with seals.
