Ordering Information3.1 Orders for material under this specification shouldinclude the following, as required, to describe the desiredmaterial adequately:3.1.1 Specification number,3.1.2 Quantity (pieces),3.1.3 Name of material (steel pipe-couplings),3.1.4 Method of manufacture (wel

8、ded or seamless),3.1.5 Finish (black or Type I or Type II) galvanized (see8.1),3.1.6 Size (NPS designator DN),3.1.7 Standard or extra-strong classification,3.1.8 Taper tapped-couplings for NPS 2 DN 50 andsmaller, either recessed or non-recessed, if desired, and3.1.9 Certification (see 11.3), if requ

Process4.1 The steel for both welded and seamless couplings shallbe made by one or more of the following processes: open-hearth, electric-furnace, or basic-oxygen.4.2 Welded couplings NPS 312 DN 90 and under may bebutt-welded, unless otherwise specified. Welded couplingsover NPS 312 DN 90 sh

10、all be electric-welded.5. Chemical Composition5.1 The steel shall conform to the chemical compositionrequirements as specified in Table 1.6. Dimensions6.1 Coupling dimensions are listed in Tables 2-4 and Figs.1-3.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee A01 on Steel,Stainless

14、 Dimensions7.1 DiameterFor couplings NPS 112 DN 40 and under,the outside diameter at any point shall not vary more than164in. 0.4 mm over nor more than132 in. 0.8 mm under thestandard specified. For couplings NPS 2 DN 50 and over, theoutside diameter shall not vary more than 61 % from thestandard sp

15、ecified.7.2 ThreadsThe variation of the threads shall not exceed6112 turns for straight tapped and 61 turn for taper tappedfrom nominal as determined using gages and the gagingpractices in ANSI B 1.20.1.8. Galvanized Couplings8.1 Galvanized couplings may be coated with zinc by eitherthe hot-dipped (

16、Type 1) or by the electrogalvanizing process.(Type II) as specified by the purchaser. The zinc used for thecoating shall be any grade of zinc conforming to SpecificationB6.8.2 Hot-dipped galvanized couplings are coated prior tothreading.8.2.1 The minimum weight of the zinc coating on theoutside surf

17、ace of the hot-dipped galvanized couplings shall beequivalent to 1.6 oz/ft2490 g/m2.8.2.2 The weight of the zinc coating on the outside surfaceshall be determined by the use of a magnetic thickness gage,using the procedure in Practice E 376 or using another methodthat is mutually agreed upon between

18、 the purchaser and themanufacturer.8.3 Electrogalvanized couplings are coated either before orafter threading.8.3.1 The weight of the zinc coating on the outside surfaceof the electrogalvanized couplings shall be equivalent to 0.18oz/ft255 g/m2 (see also 8.2.2)8.4 SamplingSamples of couplings suffic

19、ient to determinetheir conformance with the requirements of this specification,shall be taken at random for each lot of couplings of the samesize.9. Threading9.1 The coupling threads shall be in accordance with ANSIB 1.20.1. The couplings shall be applied handling tight, unlesspower tight is specifi

20、ed on the order. Taper-tapped couplingsshall be furnished on all weights of pipe NPS 212 DN 65 andlarger. For sizes NPS 2 DN 50 and smaller, it is regularpractice to furnish straight-tapped couplings for standardweight pipe and taper-tapped couplings for extra-strong anddouble-extra-strong pipe. Tap

21、er-tapped couplings may bespecified for pipe sizes NPS 2 DN 50 and under. Taper-tappedcouplings furnished for standard-weight pipe may be nonre-cessed (see Table 3) or recessed (see Table 4). Couplingsfurnished for extra-strong and double-extra strong pipe arerecessed. Recessed couplings (Table 4) c

22、onform to API Speci-fication 5L.10. Finish10.1 The finished couplings shall be free of defects.10.2 The zinc coating on galvanized couplings shall be freeof voids or excessive roughness.11. Inspection and Certification11.1 The inspector representing the purchaser shall haveentry, at all times while

23、work on the contract of the purchaseris being performed, to all parts of the manufacturers worksthat concern the manufacture of the material ordered. Themanufacturer shall afford the inspector all reasonable facilitiesto satisfy him that the material is being furnished in accordancewith this specifi

24、cation.All tests and inspection shall be made atthe place of manufacture prior to shipment, unless otherwisespecified, and shall be so conducted as not to interfereunnecessarily with the operation of the works.11.2 Responsibility for InspectionUnless otherwise speci-fied in the contract or purchase

25、order, the manufacturer isresponsible for the performance of all inspection and testrequirements specified herein. Except as specified in thecontract order, the producer may use his own or any othersuitable facilities for the performance of the inspection and testrequirements specified herein unless

26、 disapproved by the pur-chaser. The purchaser shall have the right to perform any of theinspections and tests set forth in this specification where suchinspections are deemed necessary to assure that materialconforms to prescribed requirements.11.3 The manufacturer or supplier shall upon request, fu

27、r-nish to the purchaser a certificate of inspection stating that thematerial has been sampled, tested, and inspected in accordancewith this specification, and has been found to meet therequirements.12. Rejection12.1 Each coupling received from the manufacturer may beinspected by the purchaser and, i

28、f it does not meet therequirements of this specification based upon the inspection,the coupling may be rejected and the manufacturer shall benotified. Disposition of rejected couplings shall be the matterof agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser.13. Product Marking and Packing13.1 Each

29、 coupling shall be marked with the trademark ofthe manufacturer by metal stamp or paint.13.2 The cartons in which the couplings are packed shallbear the manufacturers name or trademark, the NPS DNdesignator, the finish (black or galvanized), and the number ofpieces.13.3 When specified on the purchas

30、e order, packaging,marking, and loading for shipment shall be in accordance withPractice A 700.13.4 Bar CodingIn addition to the requirements in 13.1,13.2, and 13.3, bar coding is acceptable as a supplementalidentification method. The purchaser may specify in the ordera specific bar coding system to
