、Designation: B 835 04Standard Specification forCompact Round Stranded Copper Conductors Using SingleInput Wire Construction1This standard is issued under the fixed designation B 835; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision,

、the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers bare compact round strandedconductors made from uncoated copper wires of a sing

、le inputwire (SIW) diameter for general use in covered or insulatedelectrical wires or cables. These conductors shall be con-structed with one or more layers of helically laid compactedwires (Explanatory Note 1, Note 2, and Note 3).1.2 The values stated in inch-pound or SI units are to beregarded se

、ded conductor designmethodology that varies the number of wires within a range of conductorsizes in order to permit that range of conductor sizes to be constructedfrom a single wire size.NOTE 4The increment of weight or electrical resistance of a com-pleted concentric-lay-stranded conductor (k), in

、%, is as follows:k 5 100 m 2 1!where m = the stranding factor and is also the ratio of the weight ofelectrical resistance of a unit length of stranded conductor to that of a solidconductor of the same cross-sectional area or of a stranded conductor withinfinite length of lay, that is, all wires para

、llel to the conductor axis. Thestranding factor m for the completed stranded conductor is the numericalaverage of the stranding factors for each of the individual wires in theconductor, including the straight core wire, if any (for which the strandingfactor is unity). The stranding factor (mind) for

、 any given wire in aconcentric-lay-stranded conductor is as follows:mind=1 1 9.8696/n2!where:n5length of laydiameter of helical path of the wireNOTE 5Individual wires are not to be unlaid from compact roundconductors for testing purposes. The physical properties of the individualcompacted wires will

、 be altered by the deformation brought about bycompacting, unlaying, and straightening for test.NOTE 6To test stranded conductors for tensile strength successfullyas a unit requires adequate means of gripping the ends of the test specimenwithout causing damage that may result in failure below the ac

Various means are available, such as compres-sion sleeves, split sleeves, and preformed grips, but ordinary jaws orclamping devices are usually not suitable.ASTM International takes no position respecting the validity of any patent rights asserted in connection with an
