Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 concealed radiant heating system, na system thatoperates by heating the building materials that conceal the heatsource, which in turn transfer the heat into the heated area byradiant emission.3.1.2 facing, nthe finished surface layer through whichheat is transfer

Significance and Use4.1 The purpose of this guide is to provide information togypsum product installers for the avoidance of hazards asso-ciated with the installation of gypsum products adjacent to, orsurrounding, electric heating componen
11、ts and conductors; andto avoid damage to gypsum products when used in conjunctionwith a concealed radiant heating system.4.2 The information given in this guide is applicable torepair of existing cable heating systems and to new construc-tion of radiant heating systems constructed from flexibleradia
12、nt heating panels.5. Summary of Guide5.1 Heating System Design:5.1.1 The heating system shall be designed to satisfy theheating needs of the building and to work effectively with allbuilding materials specified for use in the heating systeminstallation.NOTE 1The architect bears the responsibility of
13、 preparing and corre-lating complete plans and specifications, and to engage a professionalfamiliar with the heating system to design the system to meet therequirements of 5.1.1 and 5.1.2.5.1.2 The heating system shall be designed so that a gypsumproduct is not exposed to a temperature more than 125

17、ricalequipment is governed by codes and regulations, and is theresponsibility of other trades.5.3 General Installation Guidelines:5.3.1 The application of gypsum panel products under thisguide shall be performed in accordance with SpecificationC 840, except as herein modified.5.3.2 The radiant heati
18、ng system shall be disconnected fromthe electric supply prior to the commencement of work.NOTE 3Disconnection from the electric supply is accomplished byswitching the heating system circuit breakers off, or removing fuses.Lowering a thermostat setting until the heating system turns off is notsupply
19、disconnection.5.3.3 Unless the concealed radiant heating system is nolonger in use and has been permanently disconnected from theelectrical supply, or unless the previous facing has beenremoved, gypsum panel products or gypsum plaster shall notbe installed as a new facing on the heated area side of
20、anexisting concealed radiant heating system.NOTE 4The increased thickness resulting from addition of gypsumpanel products or gypsum plaster to an existing concealed radiant heatingsystem can impair heat transfer into the heated area, and may causeoverheating of the electrical heat source.5.3.4 All i
21、nspection and testing of the heating system shallbe completed before application of gypsum facing materials.5.3.5 Care shall be taken in the installation of fasteners toavoid the penetration of heating equipment and electricalconductors.5.3.6 The radiant heating system shall not be operated toaccele
22、rate the drying of joint compound or texture finishes.5.3.7 Follow the radiant heat-source manufacturers start-upand operating instructions when operating the radiant heatingsystem.5.4 Repair of Cable Heating Systems:5.4.1 Repair of heating cables is the responsibility of othertrades.5.4.2 The appli
23、cation of gypsum plaster shall conform toSpecification C 842 except as herein modified.5.4.3 Filler added to gypsum plaster used to repair a heatingcable system, if any, shall be of sand or similar thermallyconductive material. Thermal insulating fillers such as ver-miculite or perlite, and foaming
24、agents that impair heat transfershall not be used in plaster applied to radiant heating systems.5.4.4 Application of metal lath shall conform to Specifica-tion C 841. Metal lath and fasteners installed for repair of acable heating system shall not contact heating cables.5.4.5 Complete embedding of t
25、he heating cable in plaster isnecessary after cable repair is completed.5.5 Flexible Radiant Heating Panel Systems:5.5.1 Application of gypsum panel products shall complywith the requirements for System I or System II of Specifica-tion C 840, as applicable, based on the specified number oflayers; an
26、d with the requirements of System XII where floatinginterior angles are used.5.5.2 Application of gypsum panel products to steel framingor furring shall comply with System VIII of SpecificationC 840.5.5.3 The thickness of a gypsum panel product installed asa facing shall not exceed the thickness spe
27、cified in the heatingsystem design specification.NOTE 5Installing facing thicker than specified can impair heat trans-fer into the heated area, and may cause overheating of the electrical heatsource.5.5.4 Furring of any material or construction shall not beinstalled between gypsum panel product faci
28、ng and flexibleradiant heating panels.NOTE 6The air gap produced by furring can impair heat transfer intothe heated area, and may cause flexible radiant heating panels to overheat.5.5.5 All joints and heads of fasteners shall be finished inaccordance with Specification C 840, to the specified level
29、offinish.NOTE 7When repairing an existing surface, the level of finish of therepair should be the same as that of the original surface.5.5.6 Foil backed gypsum panel products shall not beinstalled in contact with thin sheet flexible radiant heatingpanels.5.6 Decoration:5.6.1 The heating system shall
30、 be turned off and allowed tocool before decorating.5.6.2 Decoration of finished work, including sizing or seal-ing, shall not proceed until joint compound has dried.5.6.3 When texture finishes are used, such finishes must bethoroughly dry prior to heating system operation.6.
