、test Ka. The specimen is exposed to a salt mist environment within a test chamber maintained at a temperature of 35 C. 4 Apparatus 4.1 Chamber The chamber for this test shall be constructed of such materials that will not influence the corrosive effects of the salt mist. The detailed construction of
、 the chamber, including the method of producing the mist, is optional, provided that: a) the conditions in the chamber are within the limits specified; b) a sufficiently large volume with constant, homogeneous conditions (not affected by turbulence) is available; these conditions should not be influ
、enced by the specimens under test; EN 61300-2-26:2007 4 c) no direct spray impinges upon the specimens under test; d) drops of liquid accumulating on the ceiling, the walls or other parts cannot drip on the specimens; e) the chamber is properly vented to prevent pressure build-up and allow uniform d
、istribution of salt mist. The discharge end of the vent shall be protected from squalls which can cause strong air currents in the chamber. 4.2 Water Use distilled, demineralized or deionized water to obtain the specified humidity. No rust or corrosion contaminates shall be imposed on the specimen b
、y the test facility. 4.3 Atomizer The atomizer(s) used shall be of such design and construction as to produce a finely divided, wet, dense mist. The atomizer(s) shall be made of material that is non-reactive to the salt solution. 4.4 Heater A chamber heating means and control. 4.5 Humidifier A means
、 for humidifying the air at a temperature above the chamber temperature. 4.6 Salt mist 4.6.1 Salt solution 4.6.1.1 Concentration The salt used for the test shall be sodium chloride (NaCl) containing, when dry, not more than 0,1 % sodium iodide and not more than 0,3 % of total impurities. The salt so
、lution concentration shall be (5 1) % by weight. The solution shall be prepared by dissolving (5 1) parts by weight of salt in 95 parts by weight of distilled or demineralized water. 4.6.1.2 pH value The pH value of the solution shall be between 6,5 and 7,2, at a temperature of (35 2) C The pH value
、 shall be maintained within this range during conditioning; for this purpose, diluted hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide may be used to adjust the pH value, provided that the concentrations of NaCl remain within the prescribed limits. The pH shall be measured when preparing each new batch of solu
、tion. 4.6.1.3 The sprayed solution shall not be re-used. 4.6.2 Air supply The compressed air entering the atomizer(s) shall be essentially free from all impurities, such as oil and dust. EN 61300-2-26:2007 5 Means shall be provided to humidify and warm the compressed air as required to meet the oper
、ating conditions. The air pressure shall be suitable to produce a finely divided dense mist with the atomizer(s) used. To ensure against clogging of the atomizer by salt deposition, it is recommended that the air have a relative humidity of at least 85 % at the point of release from the nozzle. A sa
、tisfactory method is to pass the air in very fine bubbles through a tower containing heated water which shall be automatically maintained at a constant level. The temperature of this water should be at least 35 C. The permissible water temperature increases with increasing volume of air and with dec
、reasing heat insulation of the chamber and the surroundings of the chamber. The temperature should not exceed a value above which an excess of moisture is introduced into the chamber or a value which makes it impossible to meet the requirements for operating temperature. 5 Procedure 5.1 Preparation
、of specimens Prepare and clean the specimen in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. Visually check (see IEC 61300-3-1) that the attachment of the cable to the fibre optic device is not damaged. 5.2 Preconditioning Pre-condition the specimen for 2 h at the standard test conditions as defin
、ed in IEC 61300-1, unless otherwise specified in the relevant specification. 5.3 Initial measurements Complete initial examinations and measurements on the specimen as required by the relevant specification. 5.4 Conditioning Conduct the procedure in accordance with IEC 60068-2-11, test Ka. The prepa
、ration of the specimen shall be in accordance with the relevant specification. Unless otherwise specified, the specimen shall be subjected to the test in a non-operational mode. Stabilize the chamber and the specimen to standard atmospheric conditions. Place the specimen in the chamber in its normal
、 operating position including hook-ups to peripheral equipment (when required). Adjust the chamber temperature, humidity, salt concentration and pH to the specified severity. Where optical measurements are required during the test, measurements shall be made at a maximum interval of 1 h. Measurement
、s shall be made in accordance with IEC 61300-3-3. At the completion of the test, allow the specimen to remain in the chamber while the temperature is gradually reduced to standard atmospheric conditions. EN 61300-2-26:2007 6 5.5 Recovery Allow the specimen to remain under standard test conditions fo
、r 2 h, as defined in IEC 61300-1, unless otherwise specified in the relevant specification. Clean the specimen in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. 5.6 Final measurements On completion of the test, remove all fixtures and make final measurements, as defined by the relevant specificatio
、n, to ensure that there is no permanent damage to the specimen. The results of the final measurement shall be within the limit established in the relevant specification. As a minimum, the samples shall be visually examined in accordance with IEC 61300-3-1 for the presence of corrosion and material d
、egradation, and shall be functionally tested. 6 Severity The severity consists of the duration of exposure. The severity shall be specified in the relevant specification. The following preferred severities are non-mandatory severities, which may be specified for this procedure: Temperature: (35 2) C
