SCOPE The material defined by this specification is high density, precolored, polyethylene molding compound. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for materials: Type I Generally used in int
3、erior applications such as cowl side panels and glove box assemblies, or in under-hood applications such as windshield washer reservoirs. Type II Formulated for maximum resistance to weathering and is color matched or color keyed to body exterior colors. This material is specified for exterior appli
4、cations such as valance panels where exposure to direct sunlight is minimal. 3. REQUIREMENTS Note: ESB-M4D74 specification without type designation shall denote Type I only. 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard

9、ion oven. The test specimen shall be shielded from the direct velocity of high temperature air. Allow part to return to room temperature. 3.2.6 Solvent Resistance (Types I & II) There shall be no visible deleterious effects such as cracking, crazing, color changes, or other surface conditions. Test
10、Method: Immerse a 1.0 in (25 mm) portion of a sample, 1 x 3 in (25 x 75 mm) in the solvents listed below for 2 h at 23 +/- 2 C. . Petroleum Naphtha M-14J147 . Trichlorethylene ESF-M5B99 . Kerosene M14J132 . Methyl Ethyl Ketone M14J40 3.2.7 Low Temperature Impact Resistance (Type I only) There shall
11、be no evidence of cracking or any permanent deformation of the assembly. Test Method: Condition the assembly in the cold chamber at -29 C for 5 h. Remove and within 5 s subject sample to impact test by dropping a 2.0 in (50 mm) diameter steel ball weighing 535 g from a height of 4.0 ft (1.22 m). The
12、 ball shall be directed as nearly as possible to the central portion of the test surface. 13、acking, crazing, distortion, or color change. 3.2.8.1 Test Method (for washer reservoirs only) The container assembly shall be filled to 3/4 volume capacity with 20% commercial windshield washer solution, covered and subjected to 5 complete cycles of the following: . 3 h at 102 +/- 3 C . 5 h at 23 +
14、/- 2 C . 16 h at -29 C Observations shall be made at the completion of each cycle. 3.2.8.2 Test Method (for other Type I applications) Place a small piece of wood approximately 3 x 3 x 1/2 in (75 x 75 x 13 mm) in intimate contact with a flat portion of the test assembly. Retain by driving a standard
15、 pan head tapping screw 1/2 x 8-15 threads per inch (52726-S or equivalent) through the test material into the wood block. The assemblies shall be subjected to 5 complete cycles of the following: . 3 h at 102 +/- 3 C . 5 h at 23 +/- 2 C . 16 h at -29 C Observations shall be made at the completion of
16、 each cycle for any evidence of cracking, crazing, or distortion. 3.2.9 Impact Strength, Gardner (Type II only), min At 23 +/- 2 C 70 in-lb (7.9 J) At -40 C 100 in-lb (11.3 J) Test Method: Condition several sample parts 0.100 - 0.125 in (2.54 - 3.18 mm) thick for 5 h at the desired test temperature.
17、 Test samples shall be pieces cut from finished (molded-in-color), injection molded parts. A Gardner Impact Unit (model IG-1120) with a 1/2 in (12.7 mm) hemispherical impact head and the corresponding 1/2 in (12.7 mm) diameter steel base plate ring shall be positioned on any minimal energy absorbing
18、 surface. Test samples shall be impacted within 5 s after removal from the temperature conditioning chamber. 3.2.10 Resistance to Weathering (Type II only) In addition to requirements specified below, samples shall exhibit no more than a 40% decrease in tensile strength after exposure to weathering.

20、or Evaluating Change in Color (10 step) after 1,600 h exposure. 3.2.10.2 Florida Exposure After exposure to Florida weathering (5 South, D.W.I) for 1 year, samples shall not exhibit objectionable color change nor surface degradation. 3.2.11 Appearance The color, pattern, finish, and embossing shall
21、match that of the master sample as approved for production by the Design Center. Each molded color must pass Resistance to Weathering requirements of para. 3.2.10. 3.2.12 Flammability, max 4 in (101 mm)/min (FLTM BN 024-02, without the lot sampling plan) In addition, the test specimen shall not exhi
22、bit any flashing or sudden flaming on either surface in excess of the above maximum value. 5.
