2、hosphate system.2. APPLICATIONThis specification was released originally for cleaners us ed in a zinc-manganese phosphate system. The cleaners are for iron, steel, zinc orzinc alloy coated steel, zinc, or aluminum parts where maximum paintadhesion and corrosion resistance are required. The cleaner p

3、rovides aclean grease-free surface for phosphating and subsequent painting, andimproves adhesion of the paint film.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 QUALITY SYSTEM REQUIREMENTSMaterial suppliers and part producers must conform to QualitySystem Requirements, QS-9000. Material specification requirementsare to be use

4、d for initial qualification of materials. A ControlPlan for ongoing production verification is required. This planmust be reviewed and approved by the relevant Ford Materialsactivity and/or Ford Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) prior toproduction parts submission. Appropriate statistical tools mu

5、st beused to analyze process/product data and assure consistentprocessing of the materials.Part producers using this material in their products, must use Fordapproved materials and must conform to a process control plan whichhas been approved by STA and/or the relevant Materials Activity.3.2 MASS SP

6、ECTROSCOPYFord Motor Company, at its option, may conduct mass spectroscopyand/or other analysis of material/parts supplied to thisspecification. The analyses established for initial approval shallconstitute the reference standard and shall be kept on file at thedesignated material laboratory. All sa

7、mples shall produce the sameanalyses that correspond to the reference standard when testedunder the same conditions.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONWSS-M14P18-AWP 3948-b Page 2 of 43.3 CONDITIONING AND TEST CONDITIONSAll test values indicated herein are based on material conditionedin a controlled

8、 atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relativehumidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested underthe same conditions unless otherwise specified.3.4 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELSConduct testing on current production metal substrates, (i.e. cold-rolled steel, galvanized steel, galvanneal

9、ed steel, aluminum) anduse current production mill oils and lubricants per the directionof the Materials Engineer. Water-Break Free and Residual SurfaceCarbon Testing are on oiled panels per paragraph 3.4.1.3.4.1 Oiling Test PanelsClean the steel surface with the lint-free cloth soakedwith acetone a

10、nd then rinse steel surface with the samesolvent.Allow to dry at room temperature (23 +/- 2 C).Immediately after air drying, apply oils using a #6 drawdown bar, squeegee applicator or other suitable device todeposit a wet film approximately 0.014 mm thick or asspecified by the Materials Engineer.Pla

11、ce panels horizontally in a 50 C oven for 168 h to age.Panels should have sufficient spacing to allow air flowbetween panels.3.5 PREPARATION OF CLEANER BATHThe testing of the cleaner is at four levels of oil loading. Zerooil loading is the cleaner at normal operational concentration andtemperature.

12、Add oil by weight to the cleaning tank to achieve0.25 %, 0.50 % and 1.00 % load conditions.3.6 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES3.6.1 Residual Surface Carbon, max 0.16 mg/mm2Clean three aged-oiled cold-rolled steel panels with zero-oil load cleaner. Place in a Coulometer and determine theresidual carbon using a

13、n oven temperature of 450 C.3.6.2 Cleaner Etch Rate, max difference 16 mg/mm2Solvent clean, dry and weigh one 102 x 152 mm panel of eachsubstrate. Then clean the panels with fresh cleaningsolution at standard operating conditions, warm water rinseand oven dry. Re-weigh the panels and determine weigh

14、tchange.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONWSS-M14P18-AWP 3948-b Page 3 of 43.6.3 Water Break-Free 90 % minProcess two panels of each substrate with aged-oil throughzero, 0.25 %, 0.50 % and 1.00 % oil loaded cleaner bath.Warm water rinse and evaluate for percent of surface whichholds water film for a

15、t least 10 s. Definition of 100 %water break-free is a surface that is completely coveredwith water.3.6.4 Foaming Evaluation Initial sampleplus 10 %Perform the following test with zero, 0.25 %, 0.50 % and1.00 % oil loaded cleaner. (Note: The 10 % allowablevariation is not from zero load to any of th

16、e percentagesbut from sample to sample.)Heat cleaner solution to maximum recommended usagetemperature. Transfer to graduated cylinder. Put stopper incylinder and invert twice. Vent after each inversion torelease air pressure. Violently shake the cylinder using anup and down motion for 12 shakes (onc

17、e up and once downequals one shake). Immediately place on level surface andmeasure foam volume from liquid/foam interface to top offoam. Repeat measurements at 30 and 60 s.3.7 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYAll materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent inall characteristics to the materia

18、l upon which approval wasoriginally granted.Prior to making any change in the properties, composition,construction, color, processing or labeling of the materialoriginally approved under this specification, whether or not suchchanges affect the materials ability to meet the specificationrequirements

19、, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changesand obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineeringactivity. Test data, test samples and a new code identification areto be submitted with the request.Substance restricti

20、ons imposed by law, regulations or Ford, applyto the materials addressed by this document. The regulations aredefined in Engineering Materials Specification WSS-M99P9999-A1.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONWSS-M14P18-AWP 3948-b Page 4 of 44. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMaterials defined by this specificat

21、ion must have prior approval by theresponsible Materials Engineering activity. Suppliers desiring approvalof their materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from theaffected Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Uponrequest, the Supplier shall submit to the affected Mat

22、erials Engineeringactivity a completed copy of their laboratory test reports, signed by aqualified and authorized representative of the test facility,demonstrating full compliance with all the requirements of thisspecification (test results, not nominal values), the materialdesignation and code numb

23、er, and test specimens for Ford evaluation. Fords engineering approval of a material will be based on itsperformance to this specification and on an assessment of suitabilityfor intended processes and/or applications. Upon approval, the materialwill be added to the Engineering Material Approved Source List.
