This specification covers the requirements for watertight connection Connection boxes shall be of the watertight type and of the boxes for degaussing cables for use on Naval ships. sizes as specified in table I and in the individual detail specification sheet (see 6.2). 15、ributed among technical groups 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article sample. 3.2 Detail specification sheer . Prior to beginning production a sample of each size uner contract or order shall be inspected as specified in 4.2 (see 6.4). as specifiedreh and in accordance with the applicable detail specific

16、ation sheets. In the event of any conflict between requirements of this specification and the detail speci- fication sheets, the latter shall govern. Materials used in the manufacture of connection boxes shall be as specified herein or in the applicable detail specification sheet. When a definite material is not specified, the manufacturer shall use a good quality commercia

18、l grade Iraterial which is suitable for the intended use. 3.3.1 Metals. 3.3.1.1 Dissimilar metals. When dissimilar metais are used in intimate contact with each other, protection against electrolysis and corrosion shall be provided. or metal spraying of dissimilar base metals to provide similar or s

20、cated of low carbon steel conforming to QQ-S-698 (or alternate materials as approved by the Naval Ship Engineering Center (NAVSEC) or agency concerned for specific applications.) 3.3.2 Rubber compounds. Rubber compounds and compositions shall be in accordance with MIL-R-SUO. 3.3.3 Stud terminals. St

21、ud terminals shall conform to the following: Hardware bronze, hexagonal in accordance with ASTM B140, alloy (a) %; half hard. (b) E. Silicon copper, hexagonal in accordance with ASTM B98, alloy 655 or 661 hard. (c) Pressure bar. Naval brass in accordance with ASTM B21, alloy 464, hard. (d) Pin. Corr

22、osion resistant steel, AIS1 type 316. 3.4 Design and construction. The connection boxes shall conform to the design and construction specmed on the detail specification sheets. details, and materials specified herein and on the applicable detail specification sheet shall be permitted, unless approve

23、d by NAVSEC or the procuring agency. 3.4.1 Small miscellaneous hardware. All miscellaneous hardware, such as screws, bolts, nuts and washers shall be of a good commercial grade, suitably protected against corrosion. Self tapping screws or other self tapping devices shall not be used in the assembly

24、of components. when specified on the applicable detail specification sheets the components shall be as shown on figures 1 through 15. No deviation in essential 3.4.2 Threads. Threads shall be rignt hand class 2 in accordance with Handbook H28. 3.4.2.1 Engagement of threaded parts. All threaded parts

25、 shall engage sufficiently to enable the connection boxes and interior components to withstand the tests specified in 4.5.4 and 4.5.5, however the minimum engagement shall be three full threads. 3.4.3 Drillin Drilling, countersinking and tapping shall be done +I be ore 3.4.4 Sharp ed es. Stud terminals shall be as shown on figure 15 and on the individual detail specification sheet. 3.5 Watertight en

27、closures. 3.5.1 Gaskets. Gaskets shall be 1/2 inch square. Gaskets for enclosures with square corners shall be made in four pieces. 28、gainst the free ends of the long pieces. Gasket joints shall be Mde tight with rubber cement. Gaskets shall not be cemented along the grooves. Connection boxes shall withstand the dielectric strength test specified in 4.5.1.

Connection boxes shall withstand the salt spray test specifieci in 4.5.6. 3.8.7 Effectiveness of enclosure tightness. Connection .boxes shall withstand the effectiveness of enclosure tightness

39、 inspection specified in 4.5.7. 3.9 Identification lates. Plates for identification shall be engraved in accordance with type B of MIL-P-1502 + and MIL-P-15024/5. Material for these plates shall be brass. 3.10 Manufacturers markin Manufacturers marking shall appear on the exterior of cover or identi

40、fication pldis marking shall be either initials or monogram, and shall be depressed or embossed in the metal to provide permanent identification. This identifi- cation shall be that of the prime manufacturer responsible for the final acceptance of the equipment. If the manufacturer makes only the en

Connection boxes shall be furnished thoroughly clea

42、ned of all soler- ing flux and other corrosive agents. Cleaning agent shall be neutralized after cleaning. Cleaning shall be in accordance with FIIL-E-9 17. 3.12 Paintin . Painting shall be in accordance with MIL-E-917 except that the interior of + t e enclosure, excluding cover, shall be painted wh

43、ite using enamel in accord- ance with TT-E-489. 3.13 Drawings. Drawings shall consist of manufacturers drawings, certified by tne cognizant Defense Contract.Administration Service Office (DCASO) as complying with the re- quirements of this specification. The certification shall be documented on the

44、drawing as a matter of record. Drawings shall carry manufacturers numbers and the number of this specification. (Formal approval and validating signatures for manufacturers drawings will not be required nor will NAVSHIPS drawing numbers be assigned,) 3.13.1 Manufacturers drawings shall be furnished

45、and shall include the following: (a) Outline, not necessarily to scale, of the front, side, cross sectional, and top views of the boxes, giving dimensions and other essential details. In the interest of clarity, views in addition to those required may be shown. (b) List of material. (c) Descriptive

46、data of the equipment, which shall include the degree of enclosure. (d) Weight of the equipment and mounting dimensions. (e) A list of notes and references pertinent to the basic design of the equipment. (f) A list of notes pertinent to the tests conducted in accordance with this (9) Title block. sp

47、ecification. 3.13.2 Drawin distribution. The manufacturer, upon being advised that,his first article samp1ducce.ssful.ly passed the inspection of 4.2 and has been found Satisfactory -for use, shall immediately place on record a set of prints of the drawing used for manufact- nring the parts with the

48、 following: (a) One set for file with the DCAS. (b) One set for file with NAVSEC, Department of the Navy, Hyattsville, (c) One set for file with the Contracting Officer, Ships Parts Control Center, (d) One set for file with the Commander, Defense General Supply Center, Maryland 20782. 49、 Pennsylvania, 17055. Richmond, Virginia 23212. 3.14 Workmanship. Workmanship shall be first class in every respect. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the supplsy 1s responsible for the performance of all inspection require- ments as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or order, the supplier may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the in
