SANS 6011:2009 Edition 1.2 1 Cutting and marking of test specimens of particle boards 1 Scope This method covers the position, cutting, and marki

、ng of test specimens in a sample board. 2 Cutting 2.1 From the positions given in figure 2 or figure 3 (as relevant) in each sample board cut the 300 mm 300 mm test specimen(s) F and the appropriate of the 300 mm 600 mm modular sections (a), (b), (c), and (d). Then from the positions shown in figure

、 1 cut from each modular section, the specimens for the remaining tests (see table 1). NOTE a) Figure 1 indicates the relative positions of the test specimens within a 300 mm 600 mm modular section, and the positions of these sections relative to the length and width of a sample board. Figures 2 and

、 3 show the positioning of modular sections in boards of width at least 600 mm. Their positioning in narrower boards should be agreed upon between the sponsor and the testing authority. b) In the case of production quality control, whenever possible cut the sample boards alternately from the corner

、of the leading and from the trailing half (in respect of the direction of production) of the particle board. 2.2 For the cutting operation use saws of adequate tooth shape (cross-cutting type), and ensure adequate saw speed to prevent burning and excessive heat development (especially during the pre

、paration of moisture content and free formaldehyde content test specimens), and breaking out of pieces at an arris. NOTE Recommended sawing sequences (main cuts only) are given in figures 4 and 5. 2.3 Ensure that the dimensions of each test specimen, determined in accordance with ISO 9424 as an aver

、age of the values at least three measuring positions, conform (to within the relevant tolerances) to the appropriate values given in column 4 of table 1, and that all arrises of a specimen are straight, clean cut, and square. NOTE In this method reference is made to the latest issues of ISO 9424 Woo

SANS 6011:2009 Edition 1.2 2 3 Marking of test specimens 3.1 General Mark the

、 same face of each test specimen (when relevant, the face-side of the sample board) with the specimen identification given in 3.2. Where relevant, use an indelible marking medium which remains legible even after treatment of the specimens. Apply markings in a position where failure of the specimen o

、r obliteration is not expected. Where markings are covered during testing (see SANS 6016), transfer such markings to the loading block. 3.2 Specimen identification 3.2.1 General Identify a specimen by the sample board identification, the cutting identification, and the test identification. 3.2.2 Sam

、ple board identification Identify a sample board by a code representing the manufacturer, type, thickness, and number of the sample board (given in that sequence) followed, when relevant, by the letters FR, TR, or FTR, as appropriate, e.g. A2181 where A = code designation allotted to manufacturer; 2

、 = type of board, i.e. interior or exterior; 18 = nominal thickness of board, mm; 1 = number of sample board. NOTE For factory control tests, the manufacturers identification should be replaced by the batch number or production date. 3.2.3 Cutting identification Identify the modular section from whi

、ch a specimen was cut by the appropriate of the lower case letters “a“ to “d“ (see figures 2 and 3). 3.2.4 Test identification Identify (preferably by the number/letter designation of the test method) the method of test for which the specimen is intended.
