Materials and Manufacture5.1 Material covered by this specification shall be made byconventional hot and cold working procedures, from ingotsproduced by vacuum melting in electron beam or consumablearc furnaces, or both, of a type conventionally used for
17、 reactivemetals.6. Metallurgical Condition6.1 All grades furnished under this specification shall be inthe recrystallization annealed condition unless otherwise speci-fied.7. Chemical Composition7.1 The material shall conform to the requirements forchemical composition as prescribed in Table 1.7.2 T
18、he manufacturers ingot analysis shall be consideredthe chemical analysis for material produced to this specifica-tion except for hydrogen and nitrogen content which shall bedetermined on the finished product.7.3 Analysis shall be made using the manufacturers stan-dard methods. In the event of disagr
19、eement as to the chemicalcomposition of the metal, methods of chemical analysis forreference purposes shall be determined by a mutually accept-able laboratory.7.4 Sampling for chemical composition shall consist ofsamples taken at top, middle, and bottom of the ingot. Samplesfor hydrogen and nitrogen
20、 shall be taken as two randomsamples from each lot at final size.8. Mechanical Properties8.1 Grade R1 in rod form shall conform to the requirementsprescribed in Table 3 for room temperature mechanical prop-erties. Elevated temperature properties shall be used to deter-mine compliance only when speci
21、fied in the purchase order(see Test Methods E21).8.2 The yield strength shall be determined by the offset(0.2 %) method as prescribed in Test Methods E8.8.3 The tensile properties shall be determined using a strainrate of 0.003 to 0.007 in./in.mm/mmmin through the yieldstrength. After the yield stre
22、ngth has been exceeded, thecross-head speed shall be increased to approximately 0.05in./in.mm/mmmin to failure.8.4 Requirements for mechanical properties do not apply towire.9. Corrosion Properties9.1 Two samples chosen at random from each lot shall becorrosion tested in water at 680F (360C), 2690 p
23、si (18.5MPa) for 672+80 h using the manufacturers standardprocedure.9.2 Grade R1Coupons shall exhibit a weight gain of notmore than 10 mg/dm2.9.3 Grade R3Test for information only, if required bypurchase order.10. Permissible Variations in Dimensions10.1 Rod and wire shall conform to the dimensional

Number of Test and Retests14.1 Two random samples shall be taken from each lot.14.2 If any sample or specimen exhibits obvious contami-nation, improper preparation, or flaws disqualifying it as arepresentative sample, it shall be discarded and a new sampleor spe
33、cimen substituted.14.3 If the results of any test lot are not in conformance withthe requirements of this specification, the lot may be retested atthe option of the manufacturer. The frequency of the retest willbe double the initial number of tests and if the results of theretest conform to the spec
34、ification, then the retest values willbecome the test values for certification.All test values, originaland retest, shall be reported to the purchaser.15. Significance of Numerical Limits15.1 For the purpose of determining compliance with thespecified limits for requirements of the properties listed

Inspection16.1 The manufacturer shall inspect the material covered bythis specification prior to shipment. If so specified in thepurchase order, the purchaser or his representa
37、tive may witnessthe testing and inspection of the material at the place ofmanufacture. In such cases, the purchaser shall state in hispurchase order which test he desires to witness. The manufac-turer shall give notice to the purchaser as to the time and placeof the designated tests. If the purchase
38、rs representative doesnot present himself at the time agreed upon for the testing, themanufacturer shall consider the requirement for purchasersinspection at place of manufacture to be waived.16.2 The manufacturer shall afford the inspector represent-ing the purchaser, without charge, all reasonable
39、 facilities tosatisfy him that the material is being furnished in accordancewith this specification. This inspection shall be so conducted asnot to interfere unnecessarily with the operation of the works.17. Rejection17.1 Rejection for failure of the material to meet therequirements of this specific
40、ation shall be reported to themanufacturer within 60 calendar days from the receipt of thematerial by the purchaser. Unless otherwise specified, rejectedmaterial may be returned to the manufacturer at the manufac-turers expense, unless the purchaser receives, within 3 weeksof the notice of rejection
41、, other instructions for disposition.18. Referee18.1 In the event of disagreement between the manufacturerand the purchaser on the conformance of the material to therequirements of this specification or any special test specifiedby the purchaser, a mutually acceptable referee shall performthe tests
42、in question. The results of the referees testing shall beused in determining conformance of the material to thisspecification.19. Certification19.1 When specified in the purchase order or contract, aproducers or suppliers certification shall be furnished to thepurchaser that the material was manufac
43、tured, sampled, tested,and inspected in accordance with this specification and hasbeen found to meet the requirements. When specified in thepurchase order or contract, a report of the test results shall befurnished.20. Packaging and Package Marking20.1 Each shipment shall be legibly and conspicuousl
44、ymarked or tagged with the following information:20.1.1 Purchase order or contract number,20.1.2 Name of material,20.1.3 Grade,20.1.4 Size,20.1.5 Lot, heat or ingot number,20.1.6 Condition,20.1.7 Gross, net, and tare weights, and20.1.8 ASTM specification designation number.20.2 All material shall be
