26、terminationofthemoistureconditionvalueofmixtures. Themoistureconditionvaluetestdeterminesthesuitabilityofamixtureforplacing,compactionandtraffickingby constructionequipment. TheEuropeanStandardisapplicabletothetestingoflaboratorypreparedorproductionmixturesandtomixtures susceptibletocrushingduringco

30、thecompactiveeffortnecessaryintermsofthenumberofblowsofarammer toalmostfullycompactasampleofthemixtureundertest. NOTE Thetestisbasedonthefactthatrelationsbetweendensityandmoisturecontentproducedbydifferentcompactive effortstendtoconvergeasthemoisturecontentincreases. Asampleofthemixtureisplacedinamo

31、uldandthepenetrationoftherammerintothemouldismeasuredat variousstagesofcompaction.Thepenetrationoftherammeratanygivennumberofblowsiscomparedwiththe penetrationforfourtimesasmanyblowsandthechangeinpenetrationisdetermined.Thechangeinpenetrationis plottedagainstthelogarithm(tothebase10)ofthenumberofblo

32、wscorrespondingtoachangeinpenetrationof 5mmintheplottedcurve. 5Apparatus 5.1 Moistureconditionapparatus Themoistureconditionapparatusshallincludeaframe,amould,arammer,aseparatingdiscandameansof measuringthepenetrationorprotrusionoftherammertoanaccuracyof0,1mm. NOTE Themainfeaturesofthemoisturecondit

33、ionapparatusareshowninFigure1.EN1328646:2003(E) 6 5.1.1 Frame,includingthebaseandguiderods,ofrobustconstruction.Themassofthebaseshallbeatleast 31kg.Ameansofpositivelylocatingthemouldonthebaseshallbeprovided. NOTE Providedtherammercanfallverticallyandfreely,nospecialgroundsupportorplinthisrequired. 5

34、.1.2 Mouldcylinder,detachablefromthemouldbaseandsodesignedthat,whendetached,theinternalbore shallbeuninterruptedthroughoutitslength.Themouldshallbepermeableatthebase. Thepermeabilityshallbesuchthatwaterdischargesfromthemould,whenmaintainedataconstantheadof 175mmabovethebaseofthemould,atarateofbetwee

35、n4l/minand7l/min. Theinnersurfaceofthemouldcylindershallhaveaprotectivecoating. Theinternaldiameterofthemouldshallbebetween100,00mmand100,10mm.Theinternalheightofthemould shallbeatleast200mm. 5.1.3 Rammer, withatotalmassoftherammerincludingguidanceandliftingattachmentsof(7,00 0,05)kg. Thediameteroft

36、hebottomfaceoftherammershallbebetween96,95mmand97,00mm;nootherpartofthe rammerwhichentersthemouldshallexceedthisdiameter. Thebottomfaceoftherammershallbeflatexceptforanyfixingandlocatingdevices. Therammershallhaveaguidancesystemwhich,whilenotimpairingtheabilitytoachievethenearfreefall requirements,e

37、nsuresthattherammerdoesnotstrikethemouldcylinderduringthetest.Therammershallfall freelywithminimalfrictionlossesfromtheguidancesystembetweenthereleasepointandthesurfaceofthe sampleinthemould. Theguidanceandliftingattachmentsshallbedesignedsothatthebottomfaceoftherammeriscapableof penetratingtowithin

38、35mmofthebottomofthemould. Ascaleordepthgaugeshallbeprovidedandattachedtotherammer.Thescale,inassociationwithavernier placedonthetopsurfaceofthemouldcylinder,shallallowthepenetrationoftherammerintothemouldtoberead towithin0,1mm.Alternatively,adepthgaugecapableofbeingreadto0,1mmmaybeprovidedtomeasure

39、the lengthoframmerprotrudingabovethetopofthemould. Alightweightrigiddiscofappropriatematerial,e.g.fibre,withaminimumdiameterof99,10mmandapproximate thicknessof5mm,shallbeprovidedtoseparatethesampleinthemouldfromthebottomfaceoftherammer. 5.1.4 Liftingsystem, withanautomaticlatchwhichengagestherammerl

40、iftingattachmentatthelowerlimitof travel,andwhichreleasestherammeratapresetlevelattheupperlimitoftravel. NOTE Anautomaticcountertoindicatethenumberoftimesthattherammerhasbeenreleasedcanbeprovided. Thepositionoftherammerreleaseactuatorshallbeadjustablesuchthattherequiredheightofdroptothesurface ofthe

41、sampleshallbemaintained.Therammerreleaseactuatorshallbepositivelylocatedinanyofanumberof positionssuchthatthedesiredheightofdropisachievedtowithin 5mm. Anindicatorsystemregisteringtheheightofdropshallrelatetherammerreleasepointtothelowerlimitoftravelof therammer,i.e.whenatrestonthesurfaceofthesample

42、. Theheightofdropindicatorandtheheightofdropshallbeadjustablebetween100mmand260mm. Therammershallbecapableofbeingreleasedataheightsuchthatthebottomfaceoftherammerisatleast 250mmabovethetopofthemouldcylinder. 5.2 Balance,c apableofreadingto1gfortestscarriedoutinthelaboratory.
