Nothing in this document,however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemptio

20、n has beenobtained.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 First article. When specified, a sample shall be submitted for first articleinspection (see 4.3, 6.2, and 6.3).3.2 Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials. Recycled, recovered, orenvironmentally preferable materials should be used to the max

21、imum extent possible providedthat the material meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance requirements, and promoteseconomically advantageous life cycle costs.3.3 Material.3.3.1 Fiber. The felt shall be made predominately from washed cattle hair, Which shall be themain fiber constituent of the

22、 felt, but not to the exclusion of other animal hair. The fiber content ofall felt shall be not as than 95 percent hair fibers. 23、Extractable matter. Chloroform and water extractable matter shall not exceed 16.0 percentby weight, based on the bone - dry weight of the test specimen. These requirements shall be testedas specified in 4.4.3.3.3 Weight and thickness. The felt shall conform to the requirements for thickness in inche

Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), the felt shall be furnished inrolls 48 inches +/- 1 .0 inch in width and in continuous length ranges in accordance withthe following thickness schedule:Thickness (inches) Lengt

Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), the felt shall be furnished tosheet form with trimmed edges in the following sizes as specified:Sheet size,inches ( 1/2 inch in either direc

Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), the felt shall be natural; the color resultingfrom the various shades of brown hair used shall be acceptable.3.3.7 Organic acidity. When specified (see 6.2 and 6.4), all class “U” felt shall not show anor

36、ganic acidity greater than 0.2 percent when tested as specified in 4.4.3.3.8 Alkalinity and mineral acidity. When specified (see 6.2 and 6.4), all class “N” felts shallhave a pH of 7.0 1.0 when tested as specified in 4.4.3.3.9 Mildew treatment. When specified (see 6.2), the felt shall be mildew-resi

37、stant treated inaccordance with type I of MIL-F-2312. The physical and chemical characteristics of the treatedfelt shall conform to the requirements specified therein. Organic acidity, alkalinity, and mineralacidity requirements are not applicable to mildew-resistant treated felts.3.4 Construction.

38、The construction of all types and classes of the felt covered by thisspecification shall be that of a textile composed wholly of hair fibers physically interlocked bythe inherent felting properties of animal hair fibers and produced by a suitable combination ofmechanical work, chemical action, moist

39、ure, and heat, but with out needle loom weaving,knitting, stitching, thermal bonding, or adhesives.3.4.1 Flexibility. All types and classes of felt covered by this specification shall show novisible sign of cracking when tested as specified in 4.4.Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or netw

All, types and classes of felt covered by this specification shall havea minimum splitting resistance of 4.0 pounds in each direction when tested as specified in 4.4.This test is not applicable to felt of 1/8 inc

41、h and under in thickness. The split sections shall bevisually inspected to ensure that needle looming has not been used during manufacture.3.4.3 Bulk density. The bulk density shall be as follows when tested as specified in 4.4Types H-26-S and R = 0.26Types H-34-S and R = 0.34Types H-43-S and R = 0.

42、43Types H-56-S and R = 0.563.5 Identification. Each roll and sheet shall be identified by the following methods asapplicable.3.5.1. Identification. Each roll shall have a piece ticket (see 6.2) (identification tag attached tothe edge at the inner end of the felt with not finer than 5-ply cotton stri

43、ng doubled to not less than8 inches long or a plastic tag hanger of 5-inch minimum length. The piece ticket shall be made ofnot less than 15-point paper stock, and the finished surface shall not be calendered or pigmentedto the degree that would cause the obliteration of printed, stamped, or typed m

44、arkings. The pieceticket shall have a reinforced eyelet for attaching the typing cord or hanger and shall be legiblyprinted with water insoluble ink with the markings shown on figure 1. Entries on piece tickets(tags) shall be printed, stamped, or typed. The entries shall be complete and responsive w

45、ithrespect to the information required by the piece ticket legend (see figure 1). Hand lettered entriesare permitted, but hand written entries are not permitted.3.5.2 Labels. Each sheet of felt shall have a label attached to the upper right corner by staple orpin-ticket attachment. The label shall b

46、e made of not less than 15-point paper stock, and the colorshall be white or light in intensity to permit easy reading of printed markings. The label shall belegibly printed with water insoluble ink with the information specified in 3.5.1, except that grossand net yards are replaced by width and len

47、gth.3.5.3 Fiber identification label. Felt manufactured under this specification shall be labeled inaccordance with the Rules and Regulations under the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act.3.6 Workmanship. The finished felt shall conform to the quality established by thisspecification. The occurrence of defects shall not exceed the applica
