Castings shall be given a temper anneal heat treat-ment at 1250 50 degrees Fahrenheit (“F) for 6 hours, minimum. Cooling shallbe by the fastest me
14、ans possible that will not cause excess distortion orcracking. Propellercastingsehallbe exemptfrom this requirement.3.4 Casting repair. Weld repair of testings shall be performed in accor-dance with MIL-STD-278. Welding procedure qualification, prior to productionwelding, shall be in accordance with
15、 MIL-STD-248. Repair of propeller castingsshall be in accordance with NAVSEA 0991-LP-023-3000.3.k.1 Post+eld heat treatment. When weld repairs are made to the sideof the casting coming into contact with seawater in service or the heat affectedzone extends to within 1/4 inch of the seawater aide cast
16、ings shall be posteldheat treated by the same procedure used to comply with 3.3. Redetermination ofmechanical properties is not required after post-weld heat treatment. Surfacesin contact with seawater shall be specified (see 6.2.1).3.5 Identification markin Identification marking shall be in accord
17、ancewith ASTM B 148, including supplemental requirement S4, except that this speci-fication number shall be used.3.6 Chemical and mechanical property requirements. The chemical andmechanical property requirements shall be as epecified in ASTM B 148.3.7 Nondestructive requirements. The nondestructive
18、 requirements shallbe as specified by MIL-STD-278, or the contract or order (see 6.2.1).3.8meet the4.4.1centractForm and dimensions. The form and dimensions of the castings shallpattern or drawing specified (see 6.2.1).QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONSResponsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise speci
19、fied in theor purchase order, the contractoris responsible for the performanceof all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise speci-fied in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his OVIIor anyother facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection req
20、uirementsepecified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reservesthe right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification wheresuch inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conformto prescribed requirements.4.2 Classification of inspec
21、tion. The inspection requirements specifiedherein are classified ae follows:(a) First article inspection (see 4.3).(b) Quality conformance inspection (see 4.4).4.3 First article inspection. Firstarticleinspectionshallconsistoftheexaminationsand testsas specifiedin 4.3.1 through 4.3.3.4.3.1 Sampling

The first article casting shall be radi
23、o-graphicallyinspected in accO$d=ce wfth MIL-STO-271 tO the accePtmce criteriaspecified in MIL-STO-278 of the criticalitylevel specified (see 6.2.1).L.3.3 Mechanical property test. Mechanical properties shall be determinedon highly stressedregions of the casting as specified (see 6.2.1) and shall me
24、etrequirementsas agreed upon between the Command or agency concerned and thecontractor.4.3.4 Basic foundry practices. The contractor shall maintain a record ofthe basic foundry practices (type of melting or refining unit, molding procss,basicriggingdesign, location of risers and chills, and so forth
25、) used in thefirst article casting and shall make no change theretowithout the specificaPPrOvalof the Command or agency concerned. The concraccornay be required toperform specific first article tests and examinations to verify chat the changewill not degrade casting quality.4.3.5 First article test
26、report. The contractor shall prepare a firstarticle test report in accordancewith the data ordering document included inthe contractor order (see 6.2.2).4.4 Quality conformanceinspection. Castings shall be examined and testedin accordancewith 4.6.1 through 4.6.3.1 herein. If any specimen fails to cO
27、n-form to the requirementsof this specificatiOn, the entire 10C shall be rejected,except as specifiedin 4.6.1.i+.k.l Certificationof quality compliance. A certificateOf qualiYcomplianceshall be prepared for eaoh lot of material offered for acceptance(see 6.2.2). l%e certificateshall include actual d
28、ata of specifiedchemicaand mechanical tests. Qualitativeresults of nondestructive tests and ocherinspectionsor tests shall be recorded on the certificate. The certificateshall also state that each lot has been sampled, tested, and inspected inaccordancewith this specificationand meets all specificat
29、ionrequirements.The certificateshall be signed by a responsiblerepresencaciveof thecontractor.4.5 Sampling for qualicv conformance.4.5.1 Lot. A lot shall consistof all castings produced from one furnaceor crucible=c. When two or more furnacemelts or crucible melts, or both,are used co charge a ladle
30、 for pouring, the casting produced therefromshallconstitutea lot.4.5.2 Chemical analvsissamle. A chemical analysissample shall beobtained in accordancewith ASTM 3 148.4.5.3 Mechanical test samvls. 32、of test coupons. All test bars shall be identifiedwith the proper heat or lot number.4.5.6 Sampling for visual and dimensional examination. From each lot,ssmples shall be selected for visual snd dimsnsionx2 examination in accordancewith MIL-STD-105 at inspection level I. The Acceptable Quality Level
33、 (AQL)shall be 4.0 percent defective.4.6 Examinations and tests.4.6.1 Visual snd dimensional examination. Each of the ccstings selectedin 4.5.6 shall be visually snd dimensionally examined for conformsnce with therequirements of ASTM B 148 and the casting drawing. AIIycasting in the lotcontaining on
34、e or more visual or dimensional defects shall be considered adefective item snd rejected. If the number of defective items found in thelot equals or exceeds the rejection number specified in MIL-STD-105, the lotshsll be rejected subject to the resubmittal provisions of MIL-STD-105.4.6.2 Chemical and
35、 mechanical property tests. Chemical snd mechanicalproperty tests shall be performed in accordance with ASTM B 148.4.6.3 Nondestructive tests. The applicable nondestructive tests as speci-fied by MIL-STC-278, or the contract (see 6.2.1). shall be performed in accor-dance with MIL-STD-271.4.6.3.1 Acc
36、eptance criteria. The nondestructive test results shall conformto the requirements of MIL-STD-278, or as specified (see 6.2.1). The system orcategoy of the casting shall be as specified (see 6.2.1).4.7 Inspection of packagin Sample packagea snd packs, and the inspec-tion of the preservation-packagin
37、g,packing snd marking f or shipment snd storageshall be in accordance with the requirements of section 5 and the documentsspecified therein.5.
