When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjectedto first a
15、rticle inspection (see 6.3) in accordance with 4.4.3.3 Materials. The index matching material shall not produce toxic,corrosive, or explosive byproducts. The material is subject to atoxicological data and formulations review and inspection, for safety of thematerial, by the Government.3.3.1 Recycled

The index matching material shall be chemically stableover the specified operating and storage temperature ranges.3.5 Performance requirements. The performance requir
18、ements shall bedefined in terms of the mechanical, environmental, and chemical properties.3.5.1 Appearance (see 4.6.1). The index matching material shall be clearand transparent.3.5.2 Index of refraction (see 4.6.2). The index matching material shallhave an index of refraction of 1.46 0.01.3.5.3 She
19、lf life (see 4.6.3). The index matching material shall have ashelf life not less than 36 months at 25OC5OC (see 6.6). The 36 monthperiod commences on the date of the adhesive manufacture. The index matchingmaterial shall meet the requirements of 3.5.1 and 3.5.2.3.5.4 Storage temperature (see 4.6.3).
20、 The index matching material shallmeet the requirements of 3.5.1 and 3.5.2 after storage.3.5.5 Operating temperature (see 4.6.4). The index matching material shallmeet the requirements of 3.5.1 when exposed to operating temperature extremesbetween -28OC and +85OC.3.5.6 Flow resistance (see 4.6.5). T
21、he index matching material shall notflow at elevated temperatures. During the flow resistance test, uniformdisplacement of the entire index matching material sample (as contrasted withthe flow of material) is not considered a failure.3.5.7 Water absorption (see 4.6.6). The index matching material sh
22、all meetthe requirements of 3.5.1.3.5.8 Identification and marking (see 4.6.7). All containers shall bemarked. The markings shall be permanent and clearly visible and legible.Marking information shall include the Part or Identifying Number (PIN), CAGEcode, manufacturers name, and date of manufacture
23、.3.5.9 Workmanship (see 4.6.8). All index matching material shall beuniform in color and free from dirt, metallic particles, and other foreignmaterial or any quality defects detrimental to the performance of thematerial.3.5.10 Fungus Resistance (see 4.6.9) When tested in accordance with 4.6.9,index
24、matching materials shall show sparse or very restricted microbial growthand reproduction with minor or inhibited substrate utilization. There shallbe little or no chemical, physical, or structural change detectable.3.6 Shipping. Index matching material shall not be shipped on any order tothis specif

VERIFICATION4.1 General. Material delivered to this specification shall meet allrequirements herein.
26、The manufacturer shall perform the necessary tests andinspections in order to insure compliance with this specification.4.1.1 Test equipment and inspection facilities. Requirements for testequipment and inspection facilities shall be as identified in the contract(see 6.3.1).4.2 Classification of ins
27、pections. The inspection requirements specifiedherein are classified as follows:a. First contract inspection (see 4.3).b. First article inspection (see 4.4).c. Conformance inspection (see 4.5).4.3 First contract inspection. First contract inspection (see 6.4.1) isapplicable only on the first acquisi
28、tion of a particular product under thisspecification. First contract inspections (see 6.4.1) shall consist of thetests listed in table I and shall be conducted in conjunction with firstarticle inspections. The material submitted for testing shall berepresentative of the production process.4.3.1 Samp
29、le. The sample submitted shall be a number of units of the samePIN sufficient to complete all of the inspections.4.3.2 Inspection routine. The sample shall be subjected to the inspectionsspecified in table I. The tests identified in table I may be performed at thesame time as the tests identified in

Sample units that have beensubmitted to group C inspection shall not be shipped4.5.3.1.4 Noncompliance. Requirements regarding failure of group Cinspection shall be as identified in the contract (s
46、ee 6.8.2).4.6 Methods of inspection.4.6.1 Appearance (see 3.5.1). The index matching material shall be placedbetween two microscope slides and formed into a layer with a thickness ofapproximately 0.5 mm (0.02 inch). The material shall be visually inspectedfor conformance to 3.5.1.4.6.2 Index of refr
47、action (see 3.5.2). The index matching material shallbe tested using an Abbe refractometer and a sodium light source, or equivalent(refer to ASTM D542 for guidance).4.6.3 Shelf life/storage temperature (see 3.5.3 and 3.5.4). The indexmatching material shall be exposed to a temperature of +85OC2OC fo
48、r 240hrs. After exposure, the material shall be subjected to the tests specifiedin 4.6.1 and 4.6.2.4.6.4 Operating temperature (see 3.5.5). The index matching material shallbe prepared as specified in 4.6.1 and subjected to the temperatures anddurations specified in table VI. The humidity shall be c
49、ontrolled during thetemperature reduction and the low temperature exposure steps to eliminate theformation of frost on the material.
