4、orm:This specification covers a terpene base solvent cleaner in the form of a liquid, which forms atransient emulsion with water.1.2 Application:The cleaner has been used typically for the removal of residual soldering flux and polar and non-polar contaminants from component populated circuit boards

5、 subsequent to soldering operations,but usage is not limited to such applications. The cleaner is used in in-line and batch cleaningsystems with provisions for spray-under-immersion, ultrasonic immersion or immersion-spincleaning,andwithprovisionsforawaterrinse.1.3 Safety - Hazardous Materials:While

6、 the materials, methods, applications, and processes described or referenced in thisspecification may involve the use of hazardous materials, this specification does not address thehazards which may be involved in such use. It is the sole responsibility of the user to ensurefamiliarity with the safe

7、 and proper use of any hazardous materials and to take necessaryprecautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of all personnel involved.1.4 Precautions:Repeated contact with the skin can cause irritation. Use of solvent resistant gloves and eyeshield protection is recommended. The cleaner i

8、s combustible and is a Class II liquid based onNational Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards.1.4.1 Conventional industrial aqueous cleaning equipment systems are not suitable for use withcleaning compound covered by this specification.SAE AMS 1539AMS 15391.4.2 Marking inks for use on circuit

9、 boards, components, and other parts to be cleaned in terpenecleaning compounds should be of the cross-linked or polymerizing type.1.4.3 Components, used on circuit boards to be cleaned in terpene cleaners must be capable ofcomplete immersion in water in that thorough water rinsing is required for r

10、emoval of residualcleaning compound.1.4.4 Use of silicone rubber, natural rubber, neoprene rubber, rubber based adhesives, styrene, orpolyvinyl chloride resins on circuit board assemblies or other parts, to be cleaned using cleanerin accordance with this specification, must be evaluated for compatib

11、ility with the cleaner.2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS:The following publications form a part of this specification to the extent specified herein. The latestissue of SAE publications shall apply. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:3.1 Composition:Shall be a terpene based hydrocarbon/surfactant blend, colorless to slightly yellow liquid.Composition of the cleaning compound shall be optional, but shall provide a produ

16、ct meeting therequirements of 3.2.3.1.1 Toxicity: The product shall not produce vapors in such concentration as to become a medicalhazard to personnel when used in accordance with manufacturers recommendations for itsintended use.3.2 Properties:The cleaning compound shall conform to the requirements

19、mulsion Separation Time Pass 4.5.33.2.10 Ionics and Residual Flux Removal Pass 4.5.4-3-SAE AMS 1539AMS 15393.3 Quality:The cleaning compound as received by purchaser shall be homogeneous, uniform in quality andcondition, and free from foreign materials and from other contaminants detrimental to usag

20、e ofthe product.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS:4.1 Responsibility for Inspection:The manufacturer of cleaning compound shall supply all samples and shall be responsible forperformance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and perform anyconfirmatory testing deemed necessary

21、to ensure that the cleaning compound conforms to therequirements of this specification.4.2 Classification of Tests:4.2.1 Acceptance Tests: Flash point (3.2.1), nonvolatile residue (3.2.3), and emulsion separationtime (3.2.9) are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each lot.4.2.2 Periodic Test

22、s: Vapor pressure (3.2.2), specific gravity (3.2.4), viscosity (3.2.5), pH (3.2.6), andboiling point (3.2.7) are periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequency selected by thevendor unless frequency of testing is specified.4.2.3 Preproduction Tests: All technical requirements are preproduction

23、 tests and shall be performedprior to or on the initial shipment of the product to the purchaser, when a change in ingredientsand/or processing requires reapproval as in 4.4.2 and when purchaser deems confirmatorytesting to be required. Preproduction approval shall not be withheld pending completion

24、 of thestorage stability (3.2.8) test.4.2.3.1 For direct U.S. Military procurement, substantiating test data and when requested,preproduction test material shall be submitted to the cognizant agency as directed by theprocuring activity, contracting officer, or request for procurement.4.3 Sampling an

25、d Testing:Shall be as follows:4.3.1 Sufficient cleaning compound shall betaken at random from each lot to perform all requiredtests.4.3.1.1 A lot shall be all the cleaning compound produced in a single production run from the samebatch of raw materials, under the same fixed conditions and presented

26、for manufacturersinspection at one time.4.3.1.2 The contents of each container selected for sampling shall be thoroughly mixed prior tosampling.-4-SAE AMS 1539AMS 15394.4 Approval:4.4.1 Cleaning compound shall be approved by purchaser before cleaning compound for productionuse is supplied, unless su

27、ch approval be waived by purchaser. Results of tests on productioncleaning compound shall be essentially equivalent to those on the approved sample.4.4.2 Manufacturer shall use ingredients, manufacturing procedures, processes, and methods ofinspection on production cleaning compound which are essent

28、ially the same as those used onthe approved sample. If necessary to make any change in ingredients, in type of equipment forprocessing, or in manufacturing procedures, manufacturer shall submit for reapproval astatement of the proposed changes in ingredients and/or processing and, when requested,sam

29、ple cleaning compound. Production cleaning compound shall not be shipped prior toreceipt of reapproval.4.5 Test Methods:Tests to determine conformance to the technical requirements shall be conducted in accordancewith the following; standard laboratory test condition shall be 25 C 1 (77 F 2) and 55%

30、 5relative humidity. All laboratory tests shall be conducted at standard conditions unless otherwisespecified herein.4.5.1 Nonvolatile Content: Shall be determined by transferring approximately two grams of thecleaning compound to a tared glass dish. Weigh the cleaning compound and glass dish to the

31、nearest milligram. Place the sample in a vacuum oven at 30 inches 1 (762 mm 25) Hg for 2hours 5 minutes at 65 C 5 (140 F 9) followed by heating in a circulating air oven at105 C 3 (221 F 5) and holding at heat for 30 minutes 1 at atmospheric pressure.Remove the sample from the oven and cool to room

32、temperature in a desiccator. Reweigh thesample. Percent nonvolatile content shall be determined from the average of three samples,calculated using Equation 1.Percent Nonvolatile = (Eq. 1)where:W1= weight of tared glass dishW2= weight of glass dish and cleaning compoundW3= weight of sample and glass

33、dish after testing4.5.2 Storage Stability: The cleaning compound, as supplied, shall be stored at room temperature inoriginal unopened shipping container. After 12 months of storage, the cleaning compound shallshow no evidence of color change, separation, or formation of precipitate and shall confor

34、m tothe requirements of 3.2.-5-W2-W1W3-W1X100SAE AMS 1539AMS 15394.5.3 Emulsion Separation Time: Place approximately 50 mL of the cleaning compound in a clean,glass stoppered, 100 mL volumetric cylinder, graduated to ensure reading a meniscus within1 milliliter. Fill the cylinder to the 100 mL mark

35、by the addition of deionized water. Determinethe level of the meniscus in milliliters at the cleaning compound/water interface, after permittingseparation and record the level. Place the glass stopper in the cylinder and invert the cylinderallowing the bubbles to clear. Return the cylinder to the up

36、right position, again allowing the airbubbles to clear. Repeat the operation five times and then place the cylinder upright on a levelsurface. After 2 minutes 10 seconds, redetermine the meniscus level of the water/cleanerinterface in milliliters. The meniscus level shall not exceed the original lev

37、el by more than twomilliliters. The materials used to perform the test shall be at room temperature.4.5.4 The cleaning compound shall be subjected to the test schedule outlined in IPC-TR-580 todetermine flux and ionics removal characteristics in relation to the “bench mark” compound,nitromethane sta

38、bilized CFC113/methanol azeotrope. Compounds which conform to the othertechnical requirements except storage stability (3.2.8) shall receive a classification of “as goodas“ or “better than“ as a result of the testing.4.6 Reports:The supplier of cleaning compound shall furnish with each shipment a re

39、port from themanufacturer showing the results of tests on each lot to determine conformance to theacceptance test requirements and, when performed, to the periodic test requirements and statingthat the cleaning compound conforms to the other technical requirements. This report shallinclude the purch

40、ase order number, lot number, AMS 1539, manufacturers identification, andquantity.4.6.1 A material safety data sheet conforming to AMS 2825, or equivalent, shall be supplied to eachpurchaser prior to, or concurrent with, the report of preproduction test results, or, ifpreproduction testing be waived

41、 by the purchaser, concurrent with the first shipment of cleaningcompound for production use. Each request for modification of cleaning compound formulationshall be accompanied by a revised data sheet for the proposed formulation.4.7 Resampling and Retesting:If any sample used in the above tests fai

42、ls to meet the specified requirements, disposition of thecleaning compound may be based on the results of testing three additional samples for eachoriginal nonconforming sample. Failure of any retest sample to meet the specified requirementsshall be cause for rejection of cleaning compound represent

43、ed. Results of tests shall bereported.5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY:5.1 Packaging and Identification:5.1.1 Cleaning compound shall be packaged in containers of a type and size acceptable topurchaser.-6-SAE AMS 1539AMS 15395.1.2 A lot of cleaning compound may be packaged in small quantities and deliver

44、ed under the basiclot approval provided lot identification is maintained.5.1.3 Each container of cleaning compound shall be legibly marked with not less than AMS 1539,manufacturers identification, lot number, quantity, directions and precautions for safe use andstorage requirements.5.1.4 Containers

45、of cleaning compound shall be prepared for shipment in accordance withcommercial practice and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to thehandling, packaging, and transportation of the cleaning compound to ensure carrier acceptanceand safe delivery.5.1.5 For direct U.S. Mili

46、tary procurement, packaging shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1,Level C, unless Level A is specified on the request for procurement.6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT:A supplier shall mention this specification number in all quotations and when acknowledgingpurchase orders.7. REJECTIONS:Cleaning compound not

47、conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized bypurchaser, will be subject to rejection.8. NOTES8.1 For direct U.S. Military procurement, purchase documents should specify not less than thefollowing:Title, number, and date of this specificationQuantity of cleaner desiredType and s
