2、 effective date of July 31, 2014, as announcedin our November 6, 2012 bulletin2) Update the ATSM D5798 Fuel Specification title and revisedblend range3) Clarify general sample preparation information and worst casesample guidance4) Accept a minimum of 10 times the pressure rating as analternate comp

3、liance measure of a minimum 70% breakdownpressure, for all repeat pressure testing5) Extend the lower end of the allowable cycle rate from 6 to 4cycles/minute for the surge test to reflect expected use conditionsand test equipment specifications6) Reduce the exposure times from 180 to 120 days forco

4、mpatibility testing to reflect improved inspection regulations andpractices, for accessible fueling system products7) Clarify a minimum 20 inch length instead of 1/2 the pipe lengthis acceptable for minimum pipe lengths that exceed the fire testpan diameterThis issue becomes effective JULY 31, 2014.

11、ry, secondary, and coaxial types of flexible connector pipes intendedfor short length transfer and containment of the specific liquid fuels (or vapors thereof) identified in thisOutline, at commercial (public) or fleet (private) automotive motor vehicle fueling stations.1.2 Connector pipes may be me

12、tallic, nonmetallic, or composite, but are limited to maximum 12 ft (3.65m) lengths in nominal sizes up to 4 inches (102 mm) as flexible transition components within fueldispensing and/or vapor recovery piping systems, typically intended for use in the following automotivefueling station application

13、s:a) Underground use (below surface but accessible such as within chase piping) whenconnected to underground tanks or underground pipes with expected exposures to soil, water,and soil fluids;b) Sump use (enclosed tank, transition or dispenser types) when connected to pumps, valves,monitors, or dispe

14、nsing devices with expected exposures to soil, water, soil fluids, andoccasional sunlight;c) Aboveground use (above surface but with additional physical protection) when connected toaboveground tanks or aboveground pipes with expected exposures to soil, water, soil fluids,and sunlight.1.3 Connector

15、pipe systems are intended for containment of automotive fuels and exposure to soil fluidsthat have similar chemical, physical and material compatibility properties as represented by the test liquidsin these requirements based on fuels formulated in accordance with 40 CFR Part 80, Regulation of Fuels

16、and Fuel Additives, and meeting the following ASTM Fuel Specifications and blend limitations:a) ASTM D-975, Standard Specification for Diesel Fuel Oils, with biodiesel blends up to amaximum of 5 percent (B5);b) ASTM D-7467, Standard Specification for Low Blend Biodiesel, with biodiesel blendsbetween

17、 6 to 20 percent (B6 to B20).c) ASTM D-4814, Standard Specification for Automotive Spark-Ignition Engine Fuel, gasoline oroxygenated gasoline, with limited ethanol blends up to a maximum of 10 percent (E10).d) ASTM D-5798, Standard Specification for Ethanol Fuel Blends for Flexible-Fuel AutomotiveSp

19、EPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL1.4 Products covered by this outline are intended to be installed and used in accordance with:a) Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, NFPA 30,b) Code for Motor Fuel Dispensing Facilities and Garages, NFPA 30A,c) Uniform Fire Code, NFPA 1,d) Int

20、ernational Fire Code published by the International Fire Council, ore) Other applicable federal and state regulations for piping.1.5 These products are factory manufactured and intended for on-site field assembly, inspection, andleak testing for the specified applications and use conditions by quali

21、fied persons in accordance with themanufacturers instructions and local requirements.1.6 These products are intended to be periodically inspected and maintained for continued service, ortaken out of service if necessary, by qualified persons in accordance with industry recommended practicesand/or th

22、e manufacturers instructions.1.7 These products have not been evaluated for use after natural disasters, fires or exposures tochemicals not representative of the test liquids or excessive physical damage beyond the expectedassembly, installation and uses as identified in these requirements.1.8 These

23、 products have not been evaluated for special use piping applications where exposed to heavyor continuous physical abuses, excessive mechanical stresses; or environments that are highly corrosive;or operate outside of the expected ambient use temperature range for significant times.1.9 These require

24、ments do not cover underground piping products for liquid fuels, which are found inNonmetallic Underground Piping for Flammable Liquids, UL 971 or Outline of Investigation for MetallicUnderground Piping for Flammable Liquids, Subject 971A.1.10 These requirements do not cover aboveground piping produ

25、cts for gaseous fuels (such as naturalgas, liquefied petroleum gas, propane, butane, etc.), which are found in the Standard for Flexible MetallicHose, UL 536.1.11 These requirements do not cover fuel dispensing and vapor recovery hose, which are found in theStandard for Hose and Hose Assemblies for

28、hysically located on or above the surface layer of earth; can be in contactwith/exposed to soil, water, air, and sunlight. Aboveground can include above grade enclosures or othermeans to reduce exposure to physical damage and the environmental conditions noted.4.3 COAXIAL CONNECTOR PIPE (Coaxial) A

29、double wall connector pipe construction consisting ofintegral primary and secondary pipes with a defined interstitial space that provides fluid communicationand monitoring capabilities.4.4 FLEXIBLE CONNECTOR PIPE (Connector Pipe or Flex Connectors) A maximum 12 ft (3.65 m)long cylindrical thin-walle

30、d structure with integral end fittings designed for flexibility in containing andconveying flammable and combustible liquids in applications identified in the intended scope of use.Pipe types include primary, secondary and coaxial constructions.4.5 FUELS Typically those liquids identified in 40 CFR

31、Part 80, Regulation of Fuels and FuelAdditives, and compliant with only the ASTM Fuel Specification below that are dispensed in commercialor fleet motor vehicle fueling stations for use in automotive engines (internal combustion or compressionignition)a) ASTM D 975, Standard Specification for Diesel

36、n is not required to be an employee of the manufacturer.4.8 SECONDARY CONNECTOR PIPE (Secondary) A single wall connector pipe constructionintended to surround the primary, contain the liquid under abnormal conditions (such as primaryrupture), and provide fluid communication and monitoring capabiliti

37、es.4.9 SIZE (Pipe Size or Fitting Size) Nominal or trade dimensions (inches or mm) of connector pipeand fittings based on inside diameters or thread. Note - Nominal or trade sizes may not be equivalent tothe actual measurements.4.10 SUMP Accessible atmospheric enclosure located underground, typicall

38、y below a dispenser,above a tank, or at grade between tanks and dispensers, and designed to house pipe, connections,equipment and contain spills.4.11 SWIVEL JOINT A connection or joint designed to allow frequent rotational movement of thepipe during normal functional use.4.12 UNDERGROUND Physically

39、located below the surface layer of earth either in contact with soiland soil fluids (direct burial) or routed in a secondary or chase pipe (indirect burial).4.13 UNION JOINT A connection or joint designed to allow rotational movement of the pipe onlyduring assembly, installation or maintenance.CONST

40、RUCTION5 General5.1 Connector pipe are permitted to be constructed from any combination of materials, but shall beflexible with a bend radius of 2 ft (61 cm) or less, and shall be capable of field assembly and installationwithout the use of special equipment or tools.5.2 The total connector pipe len

41、gth (pipe and fittings) shall not exceed 12 ft (3.65 m). The diameter ofconnector piping shall not exceed standard nominal trade sizes beyond a 0.5 4.0 inch (1.25 10.2 cm)range.5.3 Primary pipe and the primary of a coaxial pipe shall be rated at least 50 psig (345 kPa). Secondarypipe and the seconda

42、ry of a coaxial pipe shall be rated at least 50 psig (345 kPa).5.4 Connector piping shall be supplied with end fittings that are capable of assembly to fixed pipe orfueling components, such as threaded fittings, or bolted flanges, or weld/bond joints. Moving swivel andunion joints are permitted. All

43、 pipe threads shall be NPT, NPTF, BSPT, BSPP or similar common tradetypes. All bolts, gaskets, and other components shall be supplied with the product.5.5 All materials used in the construction of pipe and fittings shall be suitable for their intended uselocations with respect to normal (expected us

45、polymers, elastomers, ceramics, etc.) used in the construction of pipe and fittings shallbe evaluated for long-term exposure compatibility to air, soil, water, ultraviolet light, and internal andexternal fluids within the expected ambient use temperature range for underground, sump, and/orabovegroun

46、d use per 1.2.5.7 Metallics used in the construction of pipe and fittings shall be inherently corrosion resistant (such asstainless steel, aluminum, brass), plated, or coated per 5.8, or evaluated for equivalent corrosionresistance per 5.9. All metals shall comply with all applicable requirements in

47、 this Outline of Investigation.5.8 Corrosion resistant coatings or platings provided on metals (such as plain carbon steel) shall beminimum designation G90 (minimum 40 percent zinc galvanizing on all sides) per ASTM A653/A653M,Standard Specification for Steel Sheet, Zinc-Coated (Galvanized) or Zinc-

48、Iron Alloy- Coated(Galvannealed) by the Hot-Dip Process.5.9 Equivalent alternate corrosion protection methods shall be determined by an evaluation of coatingsor platings in accordance with the Standard for Electrical Metallic Tubing, UL 797, and visual corrosioncomparison between benchmark G90 and a

49、lternate protection after exposures to Table 12.1 CompatibilityTest Liquids.PERFORMANCE6 General6.1 Representative production samples of each connector pipe type or component shall be subjected tothe appropriate Section714Performance Tests with sample variations of pipe type, design material,and size as specified in each test method. Special samples combining different variations, such as endfitting, joint and gasket options, in order to reduce the total number of samples are permitted, providedthey are representative of regular design, material
