37、eed for a standard for gas lights which were being installed in large numbers in various sections of the country. The group accordingly authorized establishment of a subcommittee to have jurisdiction over standards for gas-fired illuminating appliances.The subcommittee on Approval Requirements for G
38、as-Fired Illuminating Appliances held its first meeting on April 5-6, 1960, at which time a tentative draft standard was adopted and the American Gas Association, Inc., Laboratories were requested to conduct experimental tests on representative types of gas lights. The results of these experimental
39、tests were reviewed by the subcommittee at its April 17, 1962 meeting, at which time a draft standard was adopted for review and comment.The draft standard was distributed for review and comment during June, 1962. It was reconsidered by the subcommittee at its September 13, 1962 meeting, in the ligh
40、t of comments received. The resultant standard was ratified by the ASA Sectional Committee Z21 by letter ballot.The first edition was later approved by the sponsor, the American Gas Association, Inc., and endorsed as an American Standard by the American Standards Association, Inc., on July 26, 1963.
41、On August 24, 1966, the American Standards Association, Inc., was reconstituted as the United States of America Standards Institute. On October 6, 1969, the United States of America Standards Institute was renamed American National Standards Institute, Inc.Following the same procedure outlined above
42、, further revisions deemed necessary in line with developments in the industry were endorsed by the American National Standards Committee Z21 at its February 18, 1970 meeting. The third edition was subsequently endorsed as American National Standard by the American National Standards Institute, Inc.
