1、Designation: F 905 04An American National StandardStandard Practice forQualification of Polyethylene Saddle-Fused Joints1This standard is issued under the fixed designation F 905; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the

2、 year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This practice describes test criteria suitable for qualifi-cation of polyethylene saddle-fused joints. These

3、 tests may beconducted by suppliers or users to qualify saddle-fused jointsin accordance with the requirements found in the Departmentof Transportation (DOT) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)Title 49, Part 192.283. At the discretion of the end user, thesetests may also be conducted by users to quali

This is not the only test that may be used to qualify saddlefusion joints per DOT regulations.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standar

The values given in parentheses are mathemati-cal conversion to SI units that are provided for informationonly and are not considered standard.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. 9、9, Parts 192.283 and 192.285.3.2 The sustained pressure test is intended to meet the bursttest requirements of Part 192.283.3.3 The impact resistance test is intended to meet the forcerequirements of Part 192.283 as follows:3.3.1 “. . . For procedures intended for lateral pipe connec-tions, subject

The surfacecontact area of the saddle portion of the fitting and thethickness of saddle portion shall be sufficient to meet thequalification requirements of this practice.4.4 Qualification tests shall be conducted on all saddlefittings with different base areas. Only the largest outletdiamete

Procedure5.1 General:1This practice is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F17 on PlasticPiping Systems and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee F17.60 on Gas.Current edition approved Sept. 1, 2004. 17、ng products. While other joining procedures can also beused, the use of this PPI procedure is intended to help DOT expedite thequalification of gas pipeline operators and add some uniformity to theindustry.5.1.2 Allow the saddle-fused joint to cool to room tempera-ture prior to testing.5.1.3 For eac

18、h qualification test, tap the polyethylene pipewith the largest size hole used in the gas distribution system forthat fitting.5.1.4 Quantity of specimens to be tested in each testdescribed in this practice has been omitted due to the variedgoals of users of these tests. When these tests are utilized

19、 forqualification of a joining procedure (Part 192.283), a minimumof six specimens should be evaluated with each test type used. For qualification of a joiner (Part 192.285), a minimum of onespecimen should be evaluated for each test type used. Forqualification of the joint design by the manufacturer

20、, as manytests as are needed may be run, but not less than six of each testtype.5.2 Sustained Pressure Test:5.2.1 The minimum length of unreinforced pipe on bothsides of any saddle fitting shall be equal to three times thediameter of the pipe, but in no case less than 12 in. (305 mm).Test multiple s

Hold systems having a hydrostaticdesign basis of 1250 psi (8.6 MPa) at a hoop s

Qualification Requirements6.1 Qualification requirements are outlined in DOT CFRTitle 49, Part 192.283.7. Precision and Bias7.1 The impact test

30、 described in this practice is a nonstand-ard test. Reproducibility between test laboratories is notrequired because the end result of this test is qualitative (that is,a type of failure mode), not quantitative. A precision and biasstatement is, therefore, not required for this nonstandard test.8. K
