15、eadable symbols (e.g., use of linear bar code and 2D symbologies) and human readable data content for shipment labels within the electronics industry. These labels ensure that the shipment containers can be uniquely identified in any commonly used distribution system. These labels further support tr

16、ading partner data needs in shipping, transport, and receiving processes in the world-wide distribution of components and products. 4 Shipment License Plate labels All transport units must be clearly identified by a worldwide unique License Plate applied as a linear bar code symbol. The use of such

17、License Plates links the transport units to related EDI data, e.g., ANSI X12 856 (Ship Notice/Manifest) or UN/EDIFACT DESADV (Despatch Advice), within computerized applications. Non-EDI enabled partners should also label their shipments with a label that includes a License Plate. The structure and t

18、he method of how to create a License Plate is described in ISO/IEC 15459-1. This standard is based on ISO 15394 developed by ISO Technical Committee 122/Work Group 4. Every function that ships or receives goods in the electronics industry distribution systems should ensure that the label defined in

19、this standard is applied to each physical transport unit and that the unique License Plate number is properly linked to the appropriate customers order/shipment data. In addition, the same License Plate numbers may be used to link transportation units to a shipment/consignment which is described by

20、the ANSI X12 messages 856 (Ship Notice/Manifest), 204 (Motor Carrier Information), 211 (Motor Carrier Bill of Lading), and 858 (Shipment Information.) For international trading partners, the same License Plate numbers may be used to link transportation units to a shipment/consignment which is descri

21、bed by UN/EDIFACT Despatch Advice Message (DESADV) and Transport Instructions (IFTMIN). The License Plate should not be confused with Shipment IDs found in X12 856 (BSN 02) and Despatch Advice Numbers found in UN/EDIFACT DESADV. These control numbers are not used as the License Plates on containers

22、but rather as a secondary key to allow tracking and tracing of entire shipments on their way through the transportation chain. 4.1 Definition and use of specific shipment License Plates All transport units shall be identified by ISO/IEC 15459-1. 4.1.1 Unique Identifier There are two ways to uniquely

24、ntifiers shall use the Data Identifier “J“. 4.1.1.2 Unique transport package/unit load identity - the EAN.UCC SSCC License Plate All License Plates using Application Identifiers shall use AI “00“. The lowest level shipment packaging, the unbreakable unit, (i.e., the package, which is not intended to

25、 be opened during transportation) or Unit Loads, (e.g., overpacks, pallet loads, containers etc.) may be identified by an EAN.UCC License Plate, preceded by a “00” Application Identifier. The format of this label is defined by in the General EAN.UCC Specifications. 4.1.2 Other identifiers for transp

26、ort package/unit load identity This standard recognizes the historical use of DIs “S”, “3S”, “4S”, “5S”, “6S”, and “7S” within the electronics industry. New implementations should use either the EAN.UCC SSCC or the unique transport unit identifier using the ANS MH10.8.2 DI “J”. Current users of “3S”

27、 should migrate to “1J” or the SSCC. Current users of “4S” should migrate to “2J” or the SSCC. See Annex D, examples in D.6. 5 Data format and layout 5.1 General format The labeling defined by this standard will accommodate both mandatory and optional data fields. The maximum length of each discrete

28、 data field shall be 19 data characters, unless otherwise specified. This character count is exclusive of overhead characters such as start and stop characters, Data Identifiers or Application Identifiers and any other characters required by a standard symbology specification to properly encode data

29、. Limits on the number of characters which can be required of the labeler for a single bar code symbol are shown in Table 1. In order to fit on a label size of 102 mm, this symbol should be printed at the smallest X dimension as specified in the General EAN.UCC Specifications specifications. This industry standard recognizes the use of both Data Identifiers and A

37、pplication Identifiers. Some symbologies require start and stop characters, while others utilize start and stop patterns. It is important that the appropriate identifiers, and start and stop characters / patterns are utilized in accordance with their associated industry and symbology standards. All

38、mandatory data fields shall be machine readable. Optional data fields should be machine readable. 5.1.1 Syntax The detailed syntax used for linear symbols is defined by the symbology specification. The detailed syntax for two-dimensional symbols is described in ANSI MH10.8.3. For the shipment labels

39、 the following specific requirements apply. 5.1.1.1 Carrier sortation and tracking Carrier sortation is the process in which packages are routed between two or more points. Carrier tracking is the process by which the location of unit loads and transport packages being transported by a carrier is up

40、dated in the carriers database. 41、ween multiple points, locate unit loads and transport packages, and other supporting data which is relevant to sortation and/or tracking process for internal or external processing. 5.1.1.1.1 Recommended symbology for carrier sortation/tracking This standard recommends the use of a single MaxiCode s

42、ymbol for Carrier Sortation and Tracking data. A second MaxiCode symbol can be added if more data than can be encoded in a single symbol is required. Both MaxiCode symbols shall be encoded in the same Mode (see 10.3.3.2). If a carrier is using the MaxiCode symbology for automated sortation, the data

This may

45、include transportation data, product data, transactional data, structured text, and free form text. 5.1.1.2.1 Data format usage The formats in Table 4, as defined in ANS MH10.8.3 may be used for this application. Any of the data Formats, with the exception of data Format “02” (Complete EDI message /

46、 transaction) and data Format “08” (CII - Complete Message), may be combined within a single Message Envelope. Data Format “02” and “08” shall not be combined with any other data Format.
