、 used to determine the adhesion properties of automobile deadeners and undercoating materials when subjected to impact at a low temperature. Apparatus Required Slamming Fixture The slamming fixture, shown in the attached sketch, is used to deliver a uniform impact to the test panels. Contact area of
、 the panel during the slamming test is 13.00 mm on each side and bottom edge of the panel. The top of the panel enclosed by the jaws does not contact the fixture when slammed. Cold Box The cold box shall be large enough to accommodate the fixture during the slamming test. The box should be capable o

、ls The panels shall be 300 x 300 x 1 mm flat cold rolled low carbon steel body panels. A 6 mm hole is drilled in the center of one end for suspending the panel. Panels are considered flat when a 8 mm feeler gage cannot be inserted between the metal and a flat glass surface with either surface up and

Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative h
、umidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure 1. Clean and phosphate coat the steel panels in accordance with Performance Specification ESB-M3P1-A. 1A. Where specification requires, CRLC steel shall be coated with mill oil.
、 Clean panel and add 0.2 cc of mill oil (such as M99C47-A) and spread evenly over entire 300 x 305 mm surface with fingertips. 2. Material application must be made within a period of 8 h after oil application. Spray the phosphate coated panels with ESB-M6J102-A body primer. Dry film thickness, bakin
、g time and temperature to be in accordance with the specification requirements for ESB-M6J102-A. 3. Cool each panel to 23 +/- 2 C, then weigh and record. 4. Mask off the top 13 mm of each panel where it fits into the slamming fixture. 5. Spray the panel evenly with the test material at .23 - .25 g p
、er cm2. 5A. Spray the panel evenly with the test material at .14 - .16 g per cm2 (dry weight). 6. Remove the masking tape and air dry the test panels at 23 +/- 2 C for the time as indicated in the specification requirements. 7. Bake the panels in a constant temperature oven with forced circulation.
、The time and temperature used is indicated in the specification requirements. 8. Cool the panels to 23 +/- 2 C, weigh and record weight of each panel. 9. Place the panels and slamming fixture in the cold box for 3 h at - 23 +/-1 C or at the temperature indicated in the specification requirements. 10
、. Insert each panel in the test fixture (deadener or undercoating side out) and allow panel to fall from a horizontal position 6 times in rapid succession with no rebound between slams. Remove any loose particles of test material with the finger tips. FORD LABORATORY TEST METHOD BV 101-01 Page 3 of

Each cycle constitutes the following: (a) Allow to come to 23 +/- 2 C and hold at this temperature for an additional 2 h. (b) 3 h minimum in the cold box at 23 +/- 2 C or at temperature ind
、icated in the specification. (c) Slam each panel 6 times and remove loose test material as in Step 10. 12. After 6 cycles of testing, allow the panels to dry overnight at 23 +/- 2 C. 13. Weigh each test panel and calculate the percentage of retained material. Report the average material retention of
、 the 6 panels tested for each test condition. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly. Each party is responsible for determining proper use and handling in its facilities. FORD LABORATORY TEST METHOD BV 101-01 Page 4 of 4 Copyright 2000, Ford Global Technologies, Inc.
