Painted parts shall meet all requirements for the specified Type as described herein, includin
12、g both heat and corrosion requirements. 4.1.1 Type 1 For painted parts subjected to a maximum operating temperature of 1000 F (538C). Examples include select hanger brackets, exhaust castings, non-exhaust gas carrying stanchions, etc. These parts require good corrosion resistance combined with a hig

Examples include fabricated exhaust stanchion assemblies and other parts which carry hot exhaust gas directly through them. These parts require good corrosion resistance combined
14、with an exceptional level of heat resistance. 4.2 Pre-paint Preparation All surfaces to be painted, including weld metal and surrounding heat-affected zones (HAZ), shall be free of dirt, oil, grease, rust or other contaminants which may inhibit proper adherence of the high temperature paint. Wheneve
15、r possible, surfaces to be painted should exhibit “water-break free” characteristics, indicating a clean surface free of oil and other contaminates. An effective post-weld cleaning procedure is to be utilized and should include either an abrasive (e.g., bead blasting or needle descaler) or chemical

Additional care should be taken if the welded material is stainless steel to assure that any mechanical means of post-weld cleanup does not contaminate the weld and surrounding areas with iron or other elements which could negatively affect paint adhe

The requirement for as-painted parts and assemblies, their weld metal and HAZ is a uniform, continuous paint film with no cracking, peeling, areas of major color change, or other major defects. 4.3 Paint Requirements 4.3.1 Dry Film Properties 4
18、.3.1.1 Thickness Painted parts and assemblies supplied to this specification must maintain a minimum dry film paint thickness per the paint manufacturers recommendation, unless otherwise noted and approved by NAVISTAR Materials Engineering. 4.3.1.2 Color Paint color will typically be black, unless o

No parts shall be shipped for production use prior to formal approval by TDTC Materials Engineering. 5.2 As-Received Appearance 5.2.1 As
27、-received painted parts and assemblies shall be free of uncoated areas (such as around welds, on edges, in bolt holes, and in crevices), excessive painted-over weld spatter, blisters, cracks and/or other paint-related defects. Painted surfaces shall be uniform in color and gloss and maintain a rough
