2、Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers the requirements for survival kit, individual, airmans designated as Type I. In addition, this specification covers the requirements for two major subassemblies of the above kit identified as Medical

Unless otherwise specified, the airmans individual survival kits furnished under this specification shall be a produ
17、ct which has been inspected and has passed the first article inspection specified in 4.3 through 4.3.2. 3.2 Materials and components. The materials and components shall conform to applicable specifications, standards, and drawings, as listed or required herein. The processing plant, grounds, equipme
18、nt, personal practices, and sanitary procedures used in the production of the survival kits shall minimize the possibility of contamination of the containers and the components through microbial growth, dust, pests, rodents, condensate, or other unsanitary sources. The products shall be prepared, pr
19、ocessed, and handled in a manner that shall minimize deterioration or damage. 3.2.1 Bag. Each outer and inner carrying bag and the packet bag shall be fabricated from polyurethane-coated nylon taffeta based cloth conforming to the material specified in MIL-H-81843. The color of the material shall be
20、 Green, approximating 34097 of FED-STD-595, when inspected as specified in 4.6.2. 3.2.1.1 Carrying. Each outer and inner carrying bag may be fabricated from one piece of the coated cloth and the sides or the bottom and one side shall be heat sealed together. If desired, each outer and inner bag may
21、be fabricated from two pieces of the coated cloth and the sides and bottom shall be heat sealed together. The packet bag shall be closed by folding and mating of the hook fastener tape to the pile cloth. The opening or openings, as applicable, at the top of each outer and inner bag shall be capable
22、of being closed by firmly pressing together the hook and pile fastener tapes. The hook and pile fastener tapes shall conform to MIL-F-21840, Type I, Class 1, 5/8 inch wide, heat sealable coating on the underside, The color of the hook and pile fastener tapes shall approximately match the color of th
23、e outer and inner carrying and packet bag cloth, when inspected as specified in 4.6.2, or may be black. The fastener tapes shall be heat sealed on all the sides and ends to each outer and inner carrying and packet bag. The heat sealed seams of the bag and tapes, as applicable, shall be straight, con
24、tinuous, and parallel to each other and the edges of the bag and tapes, as applicable. The method of heat sealing shall not have a deleterious effect on the cloth or fastener tapes. The fastener tapes when mated and separated from each other shall show no evidence of any heat seal or bond failure at
25、 any point between the pile and hook fastener tape attachment to any carry- ing or packet bag, as applicable. When inspected as specified in 4.6.3, the seam adhesion of each outer or inner carrying bag shall be not less than 12 pounds. 3.2.1.1.1 Outer. Each inner carrying bag shall be inserted into
26、the proper outer carrying bag. 27、shall contain the markings specified in Figure 4, as applicable. 3.2.1.1.2 Inner. Two packet bags, each containing the specified items, shall be inserted into the applicable compartments of the proper inner carrying bag. The inner carrying bag shall conform to Figures 3, 5, 6 and 7, as applicable. E
28、ach bag shall be marked in accordance with 3.4 and shall contain the markings specified in Figures 8 and 9, as applicable. 3.2.1.1.3 Packet. The non-pile side of the pile fastener cloth, Number 3 V-22-90, as manufactured by the Velcro Corporation, New York, New York, or equivalent shall be permanent
29、ly and securely bonded to one side of the bag cloth by any suitable process in accordance with Figures 2, 3 and 7. The bonding process shall not affect the chemical and physical properties of the pile fastener cloth or the coated cloth. The laminated resultant packet bag cloth shall be free from wri
30、nkles, puckers, and tackiness. There shall not be any bonding medium strike-through. The laminated packet bag shall be free from congealed masses of the bonding substance and spots or stains resulting from excess bonding material. The packet bag shall conform to Figures 10 through 13. The specified
31、items for the 1A and 2A bags, as applicable, shall be attached by firmly pressing the hook fastener tape attached to the plastic envelope to the pile fastener cloth. The hook fastener tape on the water storage bag shall be used to attach the water storage bag to the pile fastener cloth. The name of
32、the item on the paper label added to the inside of the plastic envelope or on the item itself, as applicable, shall be placed so that it shall be visible when the packet bag is opened. The items shall be neatly arranged in the IA and 2A packet bags, as applicable, in a manner that shall prevent move
33、ment and afford adequate protection against damage to themselves, to the other components in the bag, or to the bag. The 1B and 2B bags shall each contain 27 squares of the hook fastener tape conforming to MIL-F-21840, Type I, Class 1, black in color, with a pressure- sensitive coating on the non-ho
34、ok side. The size of the squares shall be 5/8 inch. The pressure-sensitive side shall be protected by a suitable liner. The liner shall be capable of free separation without affecting the adhesion properties of the pres- sure-sensitive coating. The squares shall be neatly arranged and attached to th
35、e packet bag by mating the hook fastener side to the pile fastener cloth side. As an alternate, 7/16 inch diameter discs may be substituted for the 5/8 inch squares. The bag shall be neatly folded and closed by mating the hook fastener tape attached to the outer side of the packet bag with the pile
36、cloth. i! e c 3.2,2 Plastic envelope. Except for the elastic gauze bandage, 3.3.1.5, ad- hesive bandage, 3.3.1.6, water storage bag, 3.3.2.2, razor knife, 3.3.2.9, and the fire starter 3.3.2.8, all the other packet components and including the instruction cards shall be individually heat sealed with
37、 a snug fitting, clear, transparent, plastic envelope conforming to L-P-378, Type I, Class 1, O. 004 inch gage film. Maem appli- cable, a paper label (see 3.4.1) shall be inserted into the plastic envelope prior to the heat sealing. The heat sealed seams shall bu straight and parallel to each other
38、and the edges of the envelope. The conte
39、nts of each envelope shall not be damaged or affected by the sealing or manner of enclosing and shall not be caught in any of the envelope seams. One or more 5/8 inch squares or 7/16 inch diameter discs of the pressure-sensitive hook fastener tape specified in 3.2. I. 1.3, as applicable, shall be at
40、tached to each plastic envelope and to the outer sealed containers of the elastic gauze and adhesive bandages and the razor knife. The location of the hook fastener tape on the envelope or outer sealed container, as applicable, shall be compatible with 3.2.1.1.3. 3.3 Packet component s. 3.34 1 Medic
41、al packet. The medical packet shall contain the following components: 3.3.1.1 Tablets (see 6.4). 3.3.1.1.1 Aspirin. The aspirin tablets shall conform to National Stock Number NSN 6505-00-104-9522. A strip of 12 tablets shall be folded and heat sealed within the plastic envelope, 3.2.2. 3.3.1.1.2 Ant
42、i-diarrhea. The anti-diarrhea tablets shall conform to National Stock Number NSN 6505-00-913-5872. A strip of 8 tablets shall be folded and heat sealed in the plastic envelope, 3.2.2. 3.3.1.1.3 Water purification. The water purification tablets shall conform to National Stock Number NSN 6850-00-985-
43、7166. One bottle containing 50 tablets shall be heat sealed within the plastic envelope, 3.2.2. 3.3.1.2 Ointment. 3.3.1.2.1 Sun and bug repellent. The sun and bug repellent ointment shall be Silicote Sun N Bug Insect Repellent and Sun Screen as manufactured by the Silicote Corporation, Oshkosh, Wisc
44、onsin; or Sun Screen and insect Repellent as manu- factured by the Day-Baldwin, Incorporated, Uside, New Jersey; or equivalent. One ounce of the sun and bug repellent ointment shall be packaged in a metal squeeze tube. Closure of the tube shall be effected by a hand tightened plastic threaded cap in
45、 such a manner which shall prevent the contents from leaking. To further prevent the contents from leaking from the cap, the cap and the upper portion of the tube shaU be dipped into a compatible plastic solution which shall harden to form a leak-proof film seal (see 6.5). The plastic sealing shall
46、exhibit good adhesion to the cap and tube and shall not contain any signs of cracking or crazing down to cap or tube. The plastic sealing shall result in a neat and complete seal of the tube and cap juncture. The sealed area shall not contain any air bubbles. The sealing shall not obliterate any of
47、the tube markings. The capped and sealed tube shall be approximately 4-3/4 inches in length and one inch in diameter.
