21、ernatively the ships discharge pipeline may be fitted with a discharge connection that can be accepted bythe Administration, such as quick-connection couplings.F23630666.5 Pressure Test:6.5.1 Any sewage retention tank that is designed to operateunder pressure must be pressurized hydrostatically at a

22、 pres-sure head of 2.13 m (7 ft) or to 150 % of the maximum pressurespecified by the manufacturer for operation of the tank,whichever is greater. The tank must hold the water at thispressure for 1 h with no evidence of leaking.6.6 Pressure and Vacuum Pulse Test:6.6.1 Liquid retention components of t

23、he device with manu-facturer specified venting installed must be subjected to 50fillings of water at a pressure head of 2.13 m (7 ft) or themaximum pressure specified by the manufacturer for operationof the device, whichever is greater, and then emptied with a170 L/min (45 gpm) or larger positive di

24、splacement pump thatremains in operation 30 s after emptying the tank at the end ofeach cycle.6.7 Temperature Range Test:6.7.1 The device must be empty and held at an ambient airtemperature of 60C (140F) or higher for a period of 16 h.6.7.2 The device must be empty and held at an ambient airtemperat

25、ure of -40C (-40F) or less for a period of 16 hfollowing winterization in accordance with manufacturersinstructions.6.8 Chemical Resistance Test:6.8.1 In each case where the manufacturer is unable tosubmit documentation proving the material has the ability towithstand exposure to the substances list

26、ed in 6.8.2 and 6.8.3,a sample of the material must be tested.6.8.2 A sample referred to in 6.8.1 must be partiallysubmerged in each of the following substances for 100 h at anambient temperature of 22C (71.6F).6.8.2.1 Sewage.6.8.2.2 Any disinfectant that is required in the operation ofthe device.6.

27、8.2.3 Any chemical compound in solid, liquid, or gaseousform, used, emitted, or produced in the operation of the device.6.8.2.4 Fresh or salt (3.5 % sodium chloride) flush water.6.8.2.5 Toilet bowl cleaners.6.8.2.6 Engine oil (SAE/30).6.8.2.7 Ethylene glycol.6.8.2.8 Detergents (household and bilge c

28、leaning type).6.8.3 A sample of the material must be doused 20 times,witha1hdrying period between dousings, in each of thefollowing substances:6.8.3.1 Gasoline.6.8.3.2 Diesel fuel.6.8.3.3 Mineral spirits.6.8.3.4 Turpentine.6.8.3.5 Methyl alcohol.6.9 Operability TestTemperature Range:6.9.1 SewageThe

29、device must operate in an ambienttemperature of 5C (41F) with inlet operating fluid tempera-ture varying from 2 to 32C (35.6 to 89.6F) and in an ambienttemperature of 50C (122F) with inlet operating fluid tem-perature varying from 2 to 32C (35.6 to 89.6F).6.10 Sewage Processing Test:6.10.1 The devic

30、e must process human sewage in themanner for which it is designed when tested in accordance withthis section. There must be no sewage or sewage-treatingchemicals remaining on surfaces or in crevices that could comein contact with a person using the device or servicing thedevice in accordance with th

31、e instructions supplied under 5.21.6.10.2 During the test, the device must be operated andmaintained in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.Any initial start-up time specified by the manufacturer must beallowed before test periods begin. For1hofeach 8-h testperiod, the device must be tilt

32、ed to the maximum anglesspecified by the manufacturer under 5.21.6.10.3 Except for devices described in 6.10.4, the devicesmust process and discharge or store human sewage over at leastan 8-consecutive hour period on at least 10 days within a20-day period. The device must receive human sewage con-si

33、sting of fecal matter, urine, and toilet paper in a ratio of foururinations to one defecation with at least one defecation perperson per day. Devices must be tested at their average rate ofcapacity. In addition, during three periods of each day thesystem must process sewage at the peak capacity for

34、the periodof time it is rated at peak capacity.6.10.4 A device that processes and discharges continuouslybetween individual use periods or a large device, as determinedby the Coast Guard, must process and discharge sewage over atleast 10-consecutive days at the average daily capacity speci-fied by t

35、he manufacturer. During three periods of each day thesystem must process sewage at the peak capacity for the periodof time it is rated at peak capacity. The sewage for this testmust be fresh, domestic sewage to which primary sludge hasbeen added, as necessary, to create test sewage with a mini-mum o

36、f 500 milligrams of suspended solids per litre.6.10.4.1 If MSD is to be operated in international waters,IMO MARPOL 73/78 Annex IV Annex B effluent testingrequirements shall be adhered to in addition to United StatesCoast Guard testing requirements.6.10.4.2 If MSD is to be operated inAlaskan waters,

37、 effluenttesting requirements of 33 CFR 159, Subpart E shall beadhered to.6.11 Coliform Test:6.11.1 The arithmetic mean of the fecal coliform bacteria in38 of 40 samples of effluent from a Type II device during thetest described in 6.10 must be 200 per 100 mL or less whentested in accordance with 40

38、 CFR Part 136.6.11.2 The 40 samples must be taken from the device asfollows: During each of the 10 test days, one sample must betaken at the beginning, middle and end of an 8-consecutivehour period with one additional sample taken immediatelyfollowing the peak capacity processing period.6.11.2.1 If

39、MSD is to be operated in international waters,IMO MARPOL 73/78 Annex IV Annex B effluent testingrequirements shall be adhered to in addition to United StatesCoast Guard testing requirements.6.11.2.2 If MSD is to be operated inAlaskan waters, effluenttesting requirements of 33 CFR 159, Subpart E shal

40、l beadhered to.6.12 Suspended Solids Test:F23630676.12.1 During the sewage processing test (6.10), 40 effluentsamples must be taken at the same time as samples are takenfor 6.11 and they must be analyzed for total suspended solidsin accordance with 40 CFR Part 136. The arithmetic mean ofthe total su

41、spended solids in 38 of 40 of these samples must beless than or equal to 150 mg/L.6.12.1.1 If MSD is to be operated in international waters,IMO MARPOL 73/78 Annex IV Annex B effluent testingrequirements shall be adhered to in addition to United StatesCoast Guard testing requirements.6.12.1.2 If MSD

42、is to be operated inAlaskan waters, effluenttesting requirements of 33 CFR 159, Subpart E shall beadhered to.6.13 SafetyIgnition Prevention Test:6.13.1 Components of a device that are a potential ignitionsource in an explosive atmosphere shall comply with one of thefollowing: (a) pass the test in 6.

43、13.2 or 6.13.3,(b) meet therequirements of 6.13.4,or(c) have a specific warning in theinstruction manual required by 5.21 that the device is notsuitable for installation in an explosive atmosphere.6.13.2 Components protected by vapor exclusion must beplaced in a chamber filled with a rich mixture of

44、 gasoline orpropane in air with the pressure being varied from 0 to 13.79kPa (0 to 2 psig) once an hour for 8 h. Vapor readings must betaken in the void being protected and must indicate a leakageless than 20 percent of the lower explosive limit of the mixturein the chamber.6.13.3 Components providi

45、ng ignition protection by meansother than vapor exclusion must be fitted with an ignitionsource, such as a spark plug, and a means of injecting anexplosive mixture of gasoline or propane and air into the voidthat protects the component. Connections must be made so asto minimize any additional volume

46、 added to the protected voidby the apparatus delivering the explosive mixture. The com-ponent must be placed in a chamber filled with an explosivemixture and there must be no ignition of the explosive mixturesurrounding the component when the following tests areconducted:6.13.3.1 Using any overload

47、protection that is part of thedevice, the potential ignition source must be operated for 30min at 110 % of its rated voltage, 30 min at 50 % of its ratedvoltage, and 30 min at 100 % of its rated voltage with themotor or armature locked, if the potential ignition source is amotor or part of a motors

48、electrical circuit.6.13.3.2 With the explosive mixture in the protected void,the test installed ignition source must be activated 50 times.6.13.3.3 The tests 6.13.3.1 and 6.13.3.2 must be repeatedwith any plugs removed.6.13.4 Components that are certified as being intrinsicallysafe in accordance wit

49、h the Instrument Society ofAmerica (RP12.2) or explosion proof in accordance with the UnderwritersLaboratories STD 698 in Class I, Group D hazardous locations(46 CFR 111.80-5(a) need not be subjected to this testing.7. Other Requirements7.1 DocumentationA complete instruction and mainte-nance manual with drawings, electrical diagrams, spare partslist, and so forth shall be furnished with each MSD.7.1.1 Other documentation as requested by purchaser.8.
