、R - SOLIDS AND ASH CONTENT Application This method is used to determine the solids and ash content of silane adhesion promotor. Apparatus and Materials Required Porcelain Crucible With cover: 40 mm diameter and 35 mm high. Desiccator Charged with suitable desiccant. Analytical Balance Accuracy of +/
、 - 0.1 mg. Mechanical Convection Oven Capable of maintaining a temperature of 105 +/ - 2 C. Muffle Furnace Capable of maintaining a temperature of 950 +/ - 10 C. Acetic Acid Solution 6 g of approximately 100 % acetic acid diluted to 100 mL with deionized water. Conditioning and Test Conditions All t
、est values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/ - 2 C and 50 +/ - 5 % relative hum idity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure Determination of Solid Content: 1. Heat 3 cruc
、ibles and covers in the muffle furnace for 30 minutes at 950 +/ - 10 C. 2. Cool the cr ucibles and covers in the desiccator, then weigh to the nearest 0.1 mg (Wa). 3. Place approximately 3 g of the sample into each crucible and weigh (include covers) to the nearest 0.1 mg (Wb). FORD LABORATORY TEST
、METHOD AU 101-01 Page 2 of 2 Copyright 2000, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. 4. Add 1 mL of acetic acid solution to each crucible and keep for 2 - 3 h at 23 +/ - 2 C. 5. Place the crucibles (without covers) into the mechanical convection oven and maintain at 105 +/ - 2 C for 3 h. 6. Cool in a desicca
、tor and weigh each crucible (and cover) containing the sample (Wc). Save for Ash Content d etermination procedure. Evaluation: Calculate the % solid as follows and report the results as the average value of the 3 samples. % solids = Wc - Wa x 100 Wb - Wa Where: Wa = initial weight of crucibles and c
、overs Wb = initial weight of crucible s and sample Wc = final weight of crucibles and sample Note: If the individual results of the 3 samples differ from each other by more than 1 %, repeat the procedure. Determination of Ash Content: 1. Place the covered crucibles containing the weighed r esidue fr
、om step 6, Determination of Solid Content, into the cool muffle furnace, set at 950 +/ - 10 C and start the furnace. 2. Remove the covers after the temperature reaches 950 C and burn to constant weight (at least 3 h). (Covers should remain in t he furnace.) 3. Cover the crucibles with the original c
、overs, remove from the furnace, and cool in a desiccator. 4. Weigh to the nearest 0.1 mg (Wd). Evaluation: Calculate the % ash as follows and report the results as the average value of the 3 sample s. % Ash = Wd - Wa x 100 Wb - Wa Where: Wa = initial weight of crucibles and covers Wb = initial weigh
